Greetings!
* Re: e-mails - The new system addresses each person receiving the e-mail as Dear (your name) which can be misunderstood as an e-mail only to you & requiring a response. No response is necessary unless you are making a change. Since Unity Church uses this e-mail service for many different activities and congregant names, you may receive an e-mail by mistake. It is very important that you just DELETE the unwanted e-mail. DO NOT use UNSUBSCRIBE as you will be permanently deleted from the Serenity Hiker e-mail list.
*Regarding our winter wonderland Valentine Adventure, we were safe & sound with Fred Bishop's expert driving & Divine Intervention, plus all prayers surrounding us. By the way, the "B" etched in your souvenir wine glass now stands for "Blizzard"!! An event to remember.
WHAT: March Hike - *Note much later start time.
WHEN: Saturday, March 12, 2016
WHERE: Iroquois Park, 1080 Amphitheater Road, 40214 Directions: Watterson X-Way West, Exit Taylor Blvd. South; continue past main park entrance at intersection with Southern Pkwy. At this point Taylor Blvd. becomes Newcut Rd. and Amphitheater Road is a right turn off Newcut at the Kenwood Drive intersection.
TRANSPORTATION: School bus - $5 per person for all who attend, whether on bus or driving
**MEET: 10:15 am - bus departs promptly at 10:30 am from K-Mart, Breckenridge Lane & Taylorsville Road. Return to K-Mart approximately 4:30 pm.
HIKE: 11:30 am - 1:30 pm - Wooded trails in the park from 3.2 miles for the primary loop trail that completes a circle around the lower level of the park to various side trails that can add distance and difficulty. Our plan for the day is the 3.2 mile loop trail that starts at the Amphitheater and takes you past the Club House for Iroquois Golf Course and the horse stables used by Metro Police and returns to the Amphitheater Parking Lot. This trail is level most of the way with a few inclines of short duration. It takes 2 hours to complete, hiking an average 45 minute mile.
MEAL: 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm - Cottage Inn, 570 Eastern Pkwy., 502-637-4325. A longtime neighborhood fixture, Cottage Inn has a bright new look & continues happily doling out the kind of excellent down-home food it has served for more than 70 years!
QUESTIONS: Call Pat at cel 741-6162 or 459-0817. Bus seats are available. Remember to cancel if on the list, and inform Pat if you plan to drive or plan to skip lunch.
REMINDER: If you haven't already paid your 2016 dues, send a check for $12 to: Pat Taylor 2823 Brookdale Avenue Louisville, KY 40220
Also, the once-a-year gift to Ray Dunaway, our bus driver, will be presented in April, which is the anniversary date of his driving for us - 12 years and over 100 hikes. You can add a gift amount to your dues, send a check at a later time, or bring to the March hike. This is the only time he receives an extra gratuity for his service.
Remember e-mail buddies.
