  Greetings!
One of my favorite spiritual teachings is from Robert Brumet in his book Living Originally. In the first chapter he writes of the practice of radical self-awareness. As we move through life if we want to live a life consciously and intentionally we must be aware. We must be aware of of not only our thoughts but the sources of our thoughts. This is a daily practice that assists us in identifying ego chatter and the shadows that seem to want to creep in and taint our experiences. It is important to stay vigilant and aware or else.

I write this today from a place of experience. Without going into the details in the midst of a meeting I blew up. Someone said something and instead of stopping and becoming aware of the internal voices of dissent I lashed out. Not so much at anyone but at what I perceived as the injustice and the slight to my ego identity. Later I was able to discern the shadow lurking in the corner of my consciousness. The shadow was telling me I was not enough and never would be. The ego told me here was all the evidence I needed to know I was not respected and never would be. This is a voice I have heard throughout the years and a voice and a shadow I thought I had dealt with. Yet, because I let my guard down and did not stay present to my own internal struggles I lashed out to everyone present. Instead of being authentic and simply acknowledging my feeling in the moment I blew up. I did not practice radical self-awareness.

Did this moment define me or some how diminish me. No, the moment made me human. It was a moment that reminded me no matter how far you have come there is still work to do. That small hurting child within me still is seeking validation and healing and the best thing I can do is acknowledge the child and love it and move forward with a new found appreciation for how far I have come and awareness of how much continued work there is to do.

This week we continue you series on discovering your spiritual gifts. Gwen Moser our LUT and Director of Sacred Services with present the message Living Your Core Vlaues. Tony Zoeller will lead the meditation and Melba Harris will provide the special music. Keep doing your work, you are worth it. See you Sunday.
