What: Valentine Overnight Adventure!!
Cost: Bus Fare - $100 per person - 32 passenger bus
Auto Drivers - $50 per person
Hotel Rooms - $130.43 with tax - 2 Queens or 1 King (2 people sharing room equals $65.22 each)
When: February 13 & 14 (Saturday & Sunday), 2016 (will count as February Hike)
Where: Owensboro Hampton Inn & Suites Downtown-Waterfront, 401 W. 2nd St., 270-685-2005. Hotel has indoor heated pool & hot tub; fitness center; microwave & mini-frig in rooms.
Meet: 7:45 AM Saturday, February 13 at K-Mart, Breckenridge Lane & Taylorsville Rd. Bus departs promptly at 8:00 AM (7:00 AM CST). Return to Louisville at approximately 8:00 PM (EST) Sunday, February 14.
Transportation: 32 passenger motorcoach - no restroom (looks like those used by churches); Fred Bishop's new company, Above All Charters II, and Fred will drive. This is one night only & bus does not have under bus or overhead luggage compartments. Luggage is stored in large space behind the back seats & has accommodated 7-day trips. Pack as lightly as possible for one night.
NOTE: From this point forward our schedule will use CST which is 1 hour behind Louisville's EST. Cell phones will change automatically; adjust watches manually.

9:00 - 10:00 AM (CST) - Restroom & Breakfast at McDonald's, 2306 E. 4th Street, Owensboro - 270-683-5053
10:00 - 10:30 AM (CST) - Drive to Ben Hawes Park, 5786 US 60 West.
10:30 AM - 1:00 PM (CST) - Hike Ben Hawes Park which sits on top of an underground coal mine (no access) and has a variety of 6 double wide hiking trails ranging from .25 miles to 1.75 miles with a total of 4 miles that loop & connect in a chain with many intersections so that you can design your own route. There are 2 single wide trails designed for mountain bikers, but can be used for hikers with EXTREME CAUTION as bikers have the right-of-way & they travel VERY FAST. Hikers MUST use the same caution when crossing an intersection with the "bike" trail.
2:00 - 4:00 PM (CST) - Boucherie Vineyards & Winery, 6523 Keyway Drive, Spottsville, KY, 270-826-6192. (Take US 60 West toward Henderson; at intersection with Keyway Dr. go right, then close left into Winery.) While you sample the wines, a catered Bar-B-Q meal from Old Hickory Bar-B-Q, 338 Washington Ave., 270-926-9000 will be served and consists of: pulled pork, wheat buns, green beans, potato salad, homemade bean soup & banana pudding - YUM!!
4:00 - 4:30 PM (CST) - Return to Hampton Inn & Suites to check-in & get settled.
5:00 - 6:30 PM (CST) - Free Time. If you need a quick lite meal before the play, here are some suggestions within close walking distance of the Hampton Inn: Fetta Specialty Pizza; Bee Bop's Diner; Creme Coffee Shop; Another Broken Egg (Holiday Inn); Hampton Inn's Suite Shop sells frozen meals (i.e. Lean Cuisine style) to prepare in your room.
6:45 PM (CST) - Everyone meet in Hampton Inn Lobby to board bus to Empress Theatre, 418 Frederica St. (between 4th & 5th Streets). Tickets will be given out for play.
7:30 - 9:30 PM (CST) - Play: ELIZABETH KECKLEY, Behind the Scenes or, Thirty Years a Slave, and Four Years in the White House
9:30 PM (CST) - ? - Options: Ride the bus to hotel with Fred; take a free Trolley Ride til Midnight (it goes to Hampton Inn); walk around the corner to Colby's, 204 W. Third St., 270-685-4239; or take the Trolley to Holiday Inn - Another Broken Egg has outside seating around fire pits (if not windy); or search out the Saturday night "happenings" in Owensboro, I know you'll find them!

8:00 - 9:30 AM (CST) - Hot complimentary breakfast provided by Hampton Inn Suites
9:30 - 10:00 AM (CST) - Check out of rooms & load luggage to bus.
10:00 - 10:30 AM (CST) - Drive to Panther Creek Park, 5160 Wayne Bridge Road, 270-685-6142 (2nd St. to Wendell Ford X-Way/US 60), Exit W. Parrish Ave. (2nd exit); end of ramp take right to round-about to Hwy 81, go approx. 2 miles & turn right on Wayne Bridge Rd., go 1 1/2 mi., Park is on right)
10:30 AM - 12:30 PM (CST) - Hike Panther Creek Park with its unique elevated wooden boardwalk trails & a swinging bridge, covered pedestrian bridges, and a 250 foot suspension bridge over Panther Creek. There are seven trails ranging in length from 1/4 mi. to 4 miles for a total of approx. 10 miles. You decide how much ground you want to cover.
12:30 - 1:00 PM (CST) - Drive back to the Miller House, 301 East 5th St., 270-685-5878 in downtown Owensboro.
1:00 - 3:00 PM (CST) - Lunch at The Miller House, a historic home built in 1905 with Spirits, a bourbon bar under the house that always has more than 300 bourbons in stock on their "Wall of Bourbon." The decor is dark woods & exposed brick walls. Word is the food is delicious - Enjoy!
3:30 - 5:00 PM (CST) - Visit Owensboro Museum of Science & History, 122 E. 2nd St., 270-687-2732 with our host, Kathy Olson, CEO and Curator.
6:00 PM (EST) - Board the bus for return to Louisville at 8:00 PM.
