Greetings!
We are now entering the holiday season. I know if you watch TV the holiday season started months ago but that is another discussion. The holidays can be a stressful time. All the glitter, activities, family and get together can seem almost overwhelming. I remember working for a retail company (no names as this is not an advertisement) and a gentleman came into the store. We had recently reorganized our service area to facilitate quicker service to allow customers to get in and out quicker. I noticed he looked disturbed in some way and he remarked that standing in line at our store was one of the few places he could count on to stop and simply relax. So I got him a cup of cider and a stool and told him that when he was ready to let me know I I would personally assist him.
You can see by the above story that all of this activity can distract us from the true meaning of Thanksgiving and Christmas as we get caught up in the doing of the holidays. Thanksgiving can be a time to stop and give thanks for the many blessings in our lives and Christmas is the time to begin the preparation for the awakening of the Christ within us. To be clear I enjoy the holidays and all the activities but I need to remember for myself to take the time to step away for awhile and Sabbath. To allow myself to be refreshed and centered in the experience which, at least for me, makes me better prepared to experience the joy of the holidays.
We begin the season Sunday with Gratitude Sunday. A time to reflect and share the good that is always available when we take the time to notice. Rev Ray will be providing the lesson and as in years past there will be a time of individual sharing. We are especially blessed and grateful that Dave Fralick has said yes and will be leading our meditation and Gloria berry will provide the special music. We hope you are able to join us and know that we are grateful for each of you.
