9 am Unity Prayer Service
 11:00 am Sunday Celebration Service

Greetings!

I imagine many of you grew up with many of the same messages I did. I remember hearing my father tell me over and over "any job worth doing is a job worth doing right." I was reflecting on how this simple admonition has, over the years, limited my risk taking and decision making. I thought I had to know how to do something right, which is great if you already know how to do something, before I could try. Later, I heard the message "do everything in excellence." Certainly, I want to do everything right and I want to make sure it is done in excellence. Not a bad goal but limiting.

Preparing for the third in our series of workshops on creating intentional spiritual community I read an article that said "if a job is worth doing it is worth doing poorly." This certainly was an attention grabber. This lesson seemed to fly in the face of everything I had been taught. What the author was trying to convey was don't wait to know everything with the assurance of "doing it right." If something is worth doing then go ahead and do it. Give it your best shot and be open to feedback and how to improve later. Go ahead and try. I thought "am I so afraid of failure that I will only do that which I know will succeed" I remembered from the four agreements to always do your best. It does not say only do what you know you are already good at it simply says always do your best.

I regards to the work in conscious creation I will suggest and encourage everyone to ask what I am being called to. Allow the internal editor that says you don't know enough, have enough, talented enough, etc. to be quiet for awhile. If there is a fire burning within we are one and receptive to hearing the idea and discovering together how we can make it manifest in the material realm. Unity of Louisville is a vibrant evolving light in a world seeking healing and connection. We, your spiritual community, are here to partner with you for you to express the highest level of your Christ self.

Our speaker this week is Rev Judy Grimes who will report to the congregation on the mission/vision work. Everybody over the next two weeks will be given the opportunity to give feedback and make suggestion on the final mission/vision we are creating. Janet Essenpreis will be providing the special music and the meditation will be led by Robin Nelson.

Creating Intentional Spiritual Community
Saturday, March 21, 2015
Activity Center
9:00 am to 3:00 pm
The full title of the workshop is Creating Intentional Community: A mission-Centric Model of Ministry. If this sounds a like a little to much jargon in essence Intentional Spiritual Community is when a community knows who they are, what they believe, how they reflect these beliefs into the world, and how they reflect the mission/vision of the ministry. We, collectively, must become clear on who we are and where we are going. Each member is an integral part of the whole and whose voice and opinion matters.

An intentional spiritual community has clear defined goal, course of action to meet those goals, and clearly defined responsibility and accountability standards. The creation of a mission/vision guided by our core beliefs and shared values will provide internal coherence in decision making, create clarity and focus, and empower members to take action in the areas they are passionate about.

Becoming a Mystic Warrior for Our Times

In his latest book, Meister Eckhart: A Mystic Warrior for our Times, Matthew Fox explores the idea that in order to respond to the needs of this moment in history we must become "Mystic Warriors."

Such a transformation will require us to go deep - "deep where the joy resides; where the darkness, pain and grief cry to us; where creativity is unearthed; where the passion for justice and compassion return again."

In addition to examining perspectives and tools for developing the depths of our personal compassion, this workshop will also explore the possibilities for justice-making that exist for the broader community in committing to "going deep."

Our exploration will be experienced through the powerful lens of the four paths of the Creation Spirituality tradition as articulated by our workshop's guide, theologian Matthew Fox.

The program will include a series of presentations from Matthew, corresponding processing opportunities facilitated by Cultivating Connections' Mark Steiner, topped off with the music and insight of the wonderful kRi and Hettie.
