WHAT'S HAPPENING AT MCC NoVA

JOIN the 'LUNCH BUNCH'!

March 22, 12:15pm
THIS SUNDAY  Everyone is invited to join us at our twice-per-month Lunch Bunch gathering.  This a time of great food and conversation with our friends.  This is an especially good time and place for people who are new to our church to become better acquainted with our congregation. Currently, we are meeting at Buffalo Wing University because it is so easily accessible to the church. We generally meet at 12:15 pm and are usually done by 2:30 pm.  We'd love to have you join us!  If you have questions or need additional information, feel free to contact Kim Habermann or John Corbin.

BOARD REFRESHER TRAINING

March 28, 10 am - 3 pm
MCC of Northern Virginia plans to offer a "board refresher" class on Saturday, March 28th from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. The information presented will be based on the board training offered at our April 2014 Gathering at MCCDC. This is also an opportunity for us to learn from one another. If you are on a church board or plan to be at some point, this class is for you.  There is no registration fee. All we ask is that you please contact our church office if you plan to attend. Thanks, and have a great week!

FINANCIAL CONTINGENCY PLAN

ACTIVATED

Based on year-to-date revenues and expenses, the board voted on March 17th to activate our Financial Contingency Plan to address our current deficit position. The actions taken by the board were:

1) discontinue fund transfers to Board Designated Funds;

2) request all ministry leaders have ministry expenses approved prior to spending the funds;

3) reduce the Office Manager's hours from 25 to 20;

4) discontinue the pastor's health insurance stipend.

Also in accordance with the FCP, the Treasurer will contact congregants who have not paid toward their 2015 pledged amounts. If you are a pledger and are not sure of your current pledge status, please contact our Treasurer, Mark Fox, at mccnova.treasurer@gmail.com.

We appreciate your support of MCC NoVA, and will keep you updated if further actions regarding our financial position are necessary.

OK, the Pow Wow's Are Done.

What's Next?

Thanks to everyone who was able to participate in our recent Pow Wow with the Pastor sessions! As a result of those meetings and your feedback, we have determined there is sufficient interest and energy to move forward with the reinvention of MCC NoVA! So what's next?

There are three small group sessions scheduled in April: Thursday, April 16th 7:00 p.m. at the home of Ginny Reed and the Rev. Gail Minnick; Saturday, April 18th 7:00 p.m. at the home of Frank Vance; and Sunday April 26th, immediately following service.  We ask that people from the Reston/Herndon area try their best to attend the session at Ginny and Gail's (limit12, please). Alexandria, Arlington and Falls Church folks, please try to attend the session at Frank's. The session at church is the "catch all" for everyone who cannot attend one of the other sessions.

In each 1-2 hour session, we will complete one exercise to help us discover MCC NoVA's primary spiritual identity. Then, as we move forward with discovering what's next for our church, whoever we decide to be, and whatever we decide to offer in the way of celebration services, education and to the community, will come from that identity-a place of spiritual authenticity.

Please sign up! ~ There are sign-up sheets for each meeting

in the Fellowship area!

MARK YOUR CALENDARS

As a gift to MCC NoVA, Rev. Dr. Durrell Watkins, Senior Minister of Sunshine Cathedral, will be visiting MCC NoVA May 16th and 17th. Planning is in progress for a one-day retreat to be led by Rev. Dr. Watkins on Saturday the 16th, and he will be preaching on the 17th! So mark your calendars now, and prepare to be blessed!

DID YOU KNOW?

There is a lot more happening

at MCC NoVA than meets the eye!

For example, in the month of FEBRUARY:

  • Volunteers logged approximately 37 hours in the office and cleaning the church
  • Nine members and friends helped prepare and deliver 40 bags of food as part of our monthly Feed the Homeless Ministry.  Thanks to Gail V., Susan, Pat, Ginny R., Duane, Rozi, Myriam, Jazzie and Pastor Danny!
  • A total of 36 people attended our Second Fridays and Fourth Fridays transgender support groups
  • A total of 14 people attended three book discussion sessions.
  •  Two volunteers worked a total of 35 hours at hypothermia shelters. Plus, at the last minute, these same two volunteers spent four hours preparing and delivering dinners to a hypothermia shelter when the scheduled volunteer team cancelled.  Way to go, Jazzie and Jamie!
