A REFLECTION FROM PASTOR DANNY

"All I Want For Christmas Is..."

Richard, my spouse, tells the story of how every year when they were growing up, his three small children would ask him what he wanted for Christmas. Richard's reply was always, "All I want for Christmas is for you to be good children." And his children would always roll their eyes and say, "Aw, Dad, tell us something we can actually DO." Even as adults, they sometimes ask that same question, and yes, they get the same answer. You can almost feel their eyes rolling-even over the phone!

While you're asking others what they want for Christmas this year, here's a question to consider: "Have you ever wondered what God might want for Christmas?" I mean, really, what do you get someone to whom everything already belongs -at least according to Psalm 24:1?

frosty-bough.jpg Inclement Weather  Procedure & Policy

To check whether or not a scheduled church event or activity is canceled due to inclement weather, please call the church office at 703-691-0930.  In the case of a cancellation, a message will be placed on the church answering machine 2 hours prior to a scheduled event.  If the message does not include a cancellation notice, activities will be held as scheduled.  The church will also attempt to send cancellation notices via email.

The Inclement Weather Policy of the church is found below:

It is the policy of MCC NOVA during inclement weather, all Board members will pro-actively call the Pastor or designee and state their opinion about whether or not to cancel a scheduled church activity. That call should be made at least three (3) hours prior to services or the event. Once a majority of the Board members have expressed their opinions, the Pastor or designee will update the message on the church answering machine.

When feasible, proactive telephoning or electronic contact will be attempted.  Refer to the "Emergency Contact" policy for additional information.

The Moderator or Vice Moderator of the Board of Directors is responsible for overseeing this policy.

WORSHIP NEWS

NEW ORDER OF CELEBRATION

As part of last Sunday's worship participant forum, the Pastor shared some change to the Order of Celebration which will take effect December 1st. Copies of the new Order of Celebration are now available on the Information Table in the Fellowship Hall. Please feel free to pick up a copy, review it ,  and contact the Pastor through the church office should you have any questions.

SHARING OUR JOYS AND CONCERNS

Each week during the Community Prayer time in our celebration services we read joys and concerns that are written in our Prayer Book. These items are then published in the bulletin insert the following week.  We are in the process of developing a new form which will allow you to indicate if you wish for us to read items you write in the book and/or publish them in bulletin insert and we hope to have that form available by December 1st.

In order to respect the confidentiality of those for whom we are praying, as well as to honor the sensitivities of our guests who are not as familiar with the MCC NOVA community as regular attendees, we also request that you not "over-share" when writing items in the book (i.e., sharing sensitive diagnoses, hospital room numbers, details of sensitive relationship issues, etc.). While we want to continue reading and publishing joys and concerns, we will not publicly share or publish sensitive information. Please feel free to contact the Pastor through the church office if you have any questions.
