NEWS from GENERAL CONFERENCE

  GREETINGS FROM CHICAGO!

What a week it's been so far!  Seeing old friends and meeting new ones; fabulous worship--as usual; creative and thoughtful workshops. And  we should mention that, except for a few rain showers, the weather has been spectacular!

Denomination business has been concluded and MCC is moving forward, having passed all by-law changes proposed.  In addition, the following candidates were elected to MCC's Governing Board: Lay leaders  Kareem Murphy, Sarah-Jane Ramage , and Gail Rissler.  Clergy elected were Rev. Robert Griffin and Rev. Carol Trissell.

   See you all Sunday

   Have a safe and

   happy 4th of July!

WELCOME MCC NOVA's NEW MUSIC MINISTER!

A WORD FROM YOUR STEWARDSHIP TEAM

CLIMBING THE MOUNTAIN

Have you ever considered mountain climbing as a hobby? It can be overwhelming to see the mountain in front of you and consider how dangerous climbing would be. The size of the mountain alone might make you turn back.  We as a church have mountains to climb as well. We are currently facing a  $14,712.13 shortfall in giving as of June 1st.

Our pledgers have been doing a fantastic job continuing the climb contributing close to their pledged commitments for the Year of Giving Dangerously campaign. Hooray for all the pledgers and let's be fierce and commit to closing any gaps in our pledges by the end of Q3!

Giving like mountain climbing is a team sport, and the Stewardship Team needs your help. You can help us climb the mountain every Sunday when we pass the basket. We all touch it, and we can all contribute. Let's each of us commit to putting something extra, no matter how small the amount, in the basket during worship for the rest of this quarter and help shrink the deficit. It's practical, it's doable, and it sure is easier than climbing a mountain.

With Love from Your Stewardship Team: Mark Fox & Gail Schulte

WHAT'S HAPPENING AT MCC NOVA!

EDUCATION & ENRICHMENT
THE ART OF VISITATION & PRESENCE
July 10, 17 & 24, 7:00 pm

Would you like to feel better equipped to visit, care for, and be present with members of this community and those around you? Beginning Wednesday, July 10 at 7 pm, Rev. Emma Chattin will be leading a three part class on the Art of Visitation and Presence.  We will examine exactly what constitutes a visit and will explore the ways in which we can be more present with those around us--from a passing conversation, to a hospital visit,  and everything in between.  There is a sign-up sheet on the Literature Table, or you may contact the church office.  All are welcome.  (No experience necessary.  Love of people a plus).

SAVE THE DATE!
ALL MINISTRY TEAMS REPORT-OUT MEETING
Sunday, July 28, after worship

Join us for an opportunity to hear about the Ministries of MCC NOVA as Ministry leaders and participants discuss their activities and plans for going forward as Rev.Onetta prepares to leave us and as the church prepares for it's new settled pastor.  Everyone is invited.

2013 SPIRITUAL RETREAT NEWS

REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN!

MCC NOVA'S ANNUAL SPIRITUAL RETREAT

'WE ARE THE CHURCH ALIVE!"

October 18-20,

Sevenoaks Retreat Center

Madison, VA

Do we believe that God still speaks?  Still creates?  And what if, as some say, we're invited to be co-creators with God?  Then what?  From where would our energy come?  What if you and I really are infused with the light and holy energy of the One who created us?  What if we already possess all that is needed for a truly vibrant life?

And what if we combined our light, our creativeness, our word -- would we then have A CHURCH ALIVE?  If all of its members sought out the light, creation, and God's word for them, how could it not be A CHURCH ALIVE?

Through small and large group discussions, meditation, and a variety of spiritual exercises, we will explore these questions and consider new possibilities for ourselves and MCC NOVA.  In the midst of supportive community and nurtured by the sacred grounds of Sevenoaks, we will listen for Spirit's whisperings.  We will pray for a new word from God.
