"The run of quality continues but the vibrancy of this release sets it apart. This glistens both in the glass and on the palate. Vibrant tropical fruit with nuances of cut grass and chalk. Bounces with flavour from the attack all the way through to a lengthy finish. Reeks of fruit and confidence, as they say."

About Shaw + Smith

When cousins Martin Shaw and Michael Hill-Smith founded Shaw + Smith in 1989 their intention was to make exciting, refined wines that would establish a new direction for Australian wine, pursuing elegance, understatement and structure rather than concentration and power - that is, wine with a decidedly Old World sensibility. They choose to plant vines in the then virtually unknown Adelaide Hills, where higher altitude provides cooler temperatures (4°C cooler by day, 8°C cooler at night) than in neighbouring Barossa and McLaren Vale. (Interestingly, although vines had been planted in the region in 1839, viticulture was not re-established until 1979). Sauvignon Blanc has been a focus since the beginning. Vines planted between 420m and 500m - in a surprisingly 'un-Australian' landscape of dense woods and lakes - produce sauvignon with a natural balance of fresh acidity and pure fruit flavours and a firm backbone of minerality. Like great Sancerre, It is seriously ageworthy.

Shaw + Smith Sauvignon Blanc has become an Australian icon. Now much imitated, it can be credited with being one of the first to establish how cool the concept of cool can be - a massive paradigm shift for Australian wine.
