"Green's 2011 Pinot Noir Estate Vineyard Old Vine - from several in part ungrafted parcels of vines on - exhibits dark fruit, fine-grained tannins and an overall polish in striking contrast to the corresponding "regular" estate bottling. Deep, smoky, perfumed nut oils and black tea inflect juicy fresh plum and blackberry whose skins lend a fine sense of tension and ping but not outright tartness. The nuttiness here helps engender a sense of richness, as does a savor of crustacean shell reduction that, along with mineral salts, serves to liberate the salivary glands in a finish of prodigious length. At 12.5% alcohol, there is a sense of levity here rare nowadays in Pinot Noir no matter its place of origin. Look for this brilliant effort to dazzle through at least 2024.

"Brilliant red. Smoky, sharply focused aromas of dried cherry, sassafras, potpourri and mocha. Chewy, energetic and subtly sweet, offering very good depth to its bitter cherry and black raspberry flavors. Tangy acidity gives lift and vivacity to the persistent finish, which features fine-grained tannins and a lingering floral nuance."

About Patricia Green

Patricia Green Cellars is located in the Ribbon Ridge District of Yamhill County on a 52 acre estate that was purchased in 2000 by Patty Green and Jim Anderson. The winery is noted for producing a tremendously broad selection of Pinot Noirs from far flung vineyards representing some of the finest sites in the Ribbon Ridge, Dundee Hills, Chehalem Mountains, and the Yamhill-Carlton growing regions.

Patty Green has been involved in Oregon winemaking since the late 1980's, and established a high reputation as the founding winemaker at boutique pinot noir specialist Torii Mor. The goal of Patricia Green Cellars is to produce pinot noirs that express the specific characteristics of the terroirs on which they are grown. In order to produce the highest quality of fruit, farming practices are adapted to the needs of every single vine: adjustments are made according to variations in elevation, exposure, drainage, microclimate and soil. All vineyards are dry farmed. Winemaking practices are traditional and minimal, in keeping with the belief that great wines are grown not made. Patricia Green's pinots are fragrant and exceptionally elegant, combining purity of flavor, classic silky pinot noir texture and fresh acidity.
