"One of my favorite estates, Marie and Francois Giraud burst onto the scene in 2001 when they took over the running of the estate from their parents. Since then, and with help from consultant Philippe Cambie, it's been one superb set of releases after another"

"Bright ruby-red. Highly perfumed scents of candied red fruit, potpourri and incense. Smooth and open-knit, offering intense black raspberry and cola flavors that become sweeter with air.  Closes very long and spicy, with excellent clarity and fine-grained, harmonious tannins."

About Domaine Giraud

Domaine Giraud was founded in 1974 when Pierre and Mireille Giraud began farming 4 hectares of rented vines. Previously the family had run a small distillery; over the next 12 years the Girauds began purchasing small plots of land whenever they could, and eventually they converted the distillery into a small winery. In 1987, through a family connection to the renowned Armenier family, Pierre and Mireille assumed responsibility for two magnificent plots of 100 year old vines in la Crau,Châteauneuf-du-Pape's most cherished lieu-dit - les Terres Blanches and Gallimardes.

In 1998 Pierre passed direction of the estate to his children Francois and Marie. They focused their attention on viticulture, adopting separate farming practices for each individual plot as required. They also did everything they could to upgrade the cellar, while adhering to historical winemaking methods and maintaining family tradition: the wines are made with minimal intervention, and fermented and aged in a combination of concrete vats, foudres, and demi-muids.

Today Domaine Giraud produces about 5,000 cases annually, from 62 acres of vines spread across 64 individual parcels. Conversion to organic farming began in 2008; the domaine was granted biodynamic certification in 2011. The vineyards produce a smaller crop at a significantly higher cost, but the quality has never been higher, and with the assistance of renowned consulting oenologist Philippe Cambie (whose illustrious stable includes Vieux Donjon, Mont Olivet, Bosquet des Papes and les Cailloux as well as his own les Halos de Jupiter) Domaine Giraud is now well established in the top rank of Châteauneuf-du-Pape producers.
