"The style is taut, austere and tight-sewn, with low yields providing impressive concentration"

"The 2012 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Vergers has a well-defined, mineral core of fruit with touches of dried herbs. It is tightly wound at the moment, but it unfurls in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with a pretty apricot and candied orange peel entry. The oak is well-integrated and lends it a harmonious, slightly creamy veneer toward the composed finish. Very fine."

"The 2012 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Referts has a brisk, stony bouquet with a faint touch of almond and walnut, which opens nicely with aeration in the glass. The palate is furnished with a sweet core of lightly spiced fruit. It has good lift on the entry and winds everything back in on the very pretty, feminine candied orange peel finish that demonstrates good length. Fine."

"The 2012 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru En Virondots has a refined, smoky bouquet with a nutty edge developing with aeration, although it does not quite have the intensity of the Les Vergers. The palate is much better with very fine acidity, a superb sense of harmony with a lifted vibrant, and quite rich finish that is very well-defined. This should turn out to be one of the Sabine Morey's best wines in 2012."

About Domaine Marc Morey

The Morey family is one of the most well-known in the Côte de Beaune. The family name can be traced back for more than five generations in the villages of Chassagne and Meursault, and today great wines are produced at both Domaine Pierre Morey and Domaine Jean-Marc Morey. Since the mid-nineties Domaine Marc Morey has been an estate on the rise, under the stewardship of Marie-Jo Morey and her winemaker husband Bernard Mollard. Today, the estate is run by Marie-Jo and Bernard's daughter Sabine, who shares her father's remarkable talent for crafting beautiful and stylish white Burgundy that is built to last.

Since taking over Sabine has adopted the 'lutte raisonnée' approach to farming the 24 acre estate, which contains an impressive array of Chassagne premier crus including Les Chenevottes, Les Vergers, Les Caillerets, Morgeot and En Virondot (which the family jokingly refers to as a 'label monopole', since they own 90% and no one else declares it). They also produce a tiny amount of grand cru Bâtard-Montrachet and premier crus in St. Aubin (Charmois) and Puligy-Montrachet (Pucelles & Referts).

The old cellar of Domaine Marc Morey lies under a magnificent old house, formerly a coaching inn and the family home for 100 years.  The Morey family is one of those rare Burgundian families that work together and share vineyards and winemaking efforts. The winemaking is strictly traditional - the vineyards are hand-picked and hand sorted; fermentation takes place using ambient natural yeasts, and the wines receive extended aging on the lees and regular battonage. About 25% of the oak is new.

The wines are classic in style and supremely terroir driven - full of the honeysuckle and orange blossom aromas that Burgundy zealots crave, while balancing rich texture and bracing acidity. These are statuesque, powerful wines capable of very considerable age.
