Dog Point Sauvignon Blanc Bottle
93 Points

"Beatifully aromatic with a slightly smoky edge to the delicate, crisp, grapefruit and green pepper nose, which has a hint of chalk and floral passionfruit. Very fine and restrained on the palate with nice weight and precision. It's very Marlborough in style, but it's grown-up sophisticated Marlborough."

"A terrific base-level wine from these masterful sauvignon makers, this has a neat, flinty edge, ahead of fresh, fleshy, tropical and lime fruit, with some grapefruit. The palate has bright, composed and tangy lime citrus flavor and great balance. Crisp and tidy. Drink now."

"The name pays homage to shepherds' canines that once roamed this district of Marlborough, N.Z., herding sheep before proper fences could be erected. You'll still find a gentle dog or two on the property if you visit, but they're kept around for company, not work. Animals aside, it's one of the best grape-growing properties in New Zealand. The 2013 sauvignon blanc is top class, with a subtler profile compared with most of its Kiwi kin. Light-bodied and crisp, it plays a mind game - silky first, then zesty, then silky again. All the way through you may detect a note of flintiness along with the herb-garden and citrus-orchard characters. Classy fare for grilled, citrus-marinated shellfish."

About Dog Point

Dog Point's Ivan Sutherland and James Healy, the former chief viticulturalist (Sutherland) and oenologist (Healy) at Marlborough's renowned Cloudy Bay, are two of New Zealand's most influential winegrowers. Together with legendary winemaker Kevin Judd they established Cloudy Bay as a New World icon, which during the 1990's became one of the world's most fashionable wines. When Cloudy Bay was eventually bought by Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy, Sutherland and Healy departed to create Dog Point.

Produced from the magnificent vineyards planted in the 70's and 80's that formerly supplied Cloudy Bay, Dog Point wines are amongst the most refined in New Zealand, compellingly combining New World vitality and Old World minerality. Winegrowing is impeccable; the grapes are hand-picked, and winemaking is non-interventionist.  The wine offered today represents the very best of Marlborough. Beautifully balanced, complex, and truly astonishing value for money this is quite simply the benchmark for Sauvignon Blanc in New Zealand.
