"The NV Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs Latitude (Tradition) is a more overtly mineral, intense wine than the Longitude, with tons of cut and pure energy. Lemon, grape fruit, crushed rocks, flowers make a positive first impression. With time in the glass, the wine fleshes out beautifully, showing hints of Pinot-inflected fruit and weight, a reminder this site was once planted with Pinot. Layers of fruit build to a rich, effortless finish. What a beautiful wine this is. This release is 70% 2010, with 30% reserve wines from sites just south of Vertus. Dosage was 4 grams per liter. This bottle was disgorged on September 2012."

"Bright straw.  Elegant, high-pitched aromas of Meyer lemon, quince and white flowers.  Vibrant, mineral-laced citrus and orchard fruit flavors shows excellent clarity and lift, picking up notes of anise and honey with air.  Finishes taut and focused, with repeating mineral and floral notes.  This graceful Champagne would be fantastic with simply prepared crab or shrimp dishes."

About Larmandier Bernier

In wine, the only constant is change.  After centuries of domination by the giant negociant firms and their brands, the Champagne business has suddenly changed profoundly with the emergence of a new generation of small growers focused on terroir-driven wines that are defined by specifics of place.

In many ways Larmandier-Bernier is the quintessential Grower Champagne. The Company unites two families with a long history of winegrowing in the Côte des Blancs. The oldest records in which the Larmandier and Bernier families appear as winegrowers date back to the French Revolution. At the end of the 19th century the Larmandier family's exquisite Champanges were being supplied to Paris's two greatest restaurants - la Tour d'Argent and Taillevent.

In 1971, Philippe Larmandier and his wife Elisabeth Bernier, who owned vineyards in Vertus, established Larmandier-Bernier. In 1992, Pierre Larmandier, Philippe and Elisabeth's son, took over the estate and began the move away from conventional faming. The estate has been cultivated biodynamically since 1999.

The winery has recently rebranded two of their cuvées changing their Tradition and Blanc de Blancs to Latitude and Longitude respectively. The wines take these names due to their vineyard positions. The vineyards for the Latitude all come from the same relative latitude south of Vertus and the vineyards for the Longitude all form a line near the 4th meridian.

Pierre Larmandier has quickly achieved a reputation as one of Champagne's most meticulous winegrowers. His wines are considered to be the ultimate expression of chardonnay grown on the magnificent limestone terroir of the Côte des Blancs. Luscious and intensely minerally, they are 'food wines' par excellence, with citrusy, nutty, salty (Meursault-like?) complexity and perfect balance.
