"An exuberantly fresh nose offers up notes of pear, peach, apricot, green apple and wet stone where the latter element can also be found on the opulent, intense and well-detailed flavors that are blessed with plenty of palate coating dry extract. There is excellent underlying tension to the tangy and citrus-infused finish that possesses both outstanding depth and persistence. This doesn't have the sheer minerality of the Perrières but it is just as long. A qualitative choice."

"Bright pale yellow.  Peach, hazelnut, butter, toast and vanilla on the nose.  Then surprisingly fat and sweet in the mouth and much more civilized in the early going than the comparatively tough Perrieres.  Ripe peach and pineapple fruit flavors are nicely framed by harmonious acidity but this is essentially a lush, even warm style.  Saturates the mouth on the finish, which is firmed by an edge of acidity.  "The small crop in 2011 really saved the vintage," noted Latour, who started harvesting on August 28."

"Along with the Perrières this possesses the most elegant nose in the range with an exquisite aromatic profile of spice, wet stone, acacia blossom, pear and lemon rind. There is terrific detail to the highly energetic and imposingly full-bodied flavors that brim with dry extract on the lingering and mouth coating finish that is quite dry but not at all austere. This is an elegant and mineral-driven wine of finesse."

"Bright pale yellow.  Pure aromas of orange oil, peach and white truffle are less forthcoming today than the regular Perrieres.  Rich and rather powerful on the palate, with strong but nicely integrated acidity (4.8 grams per liter, vs. 4.6 for the regular Perrieres).  Turns much more taut on the back half, finishing very long, with crushed stone and saline mineral flavors along with notes of lemon and mint.  A bit youthfully dry today but with plenty of grip and budding complexity."

"A cool, pure and ultra-elegant intensely floral nose exhibits nuances of wet stone, citrus and pear. There is superb intensity to the rich, strikingly well-detailed and solidly precise medium weight flavors that brim with an almost pungent minerality, all wrapped in a tension-filled, complex and notably dry finish. A classic Perrières that delivers flat out phenomenal length. Definitely worth considering."

"Bright pale-medium yellow.  Tight, pure nose hints at lemon zest and crushed stone.  Delicate, juicy and intense, showing more citrus than stone fruits today.  Silky and seamless in texture but at the same time more severe and backward and hiding its personality today.  The precise, taut finish leaves behind notes of hazelnut and flowers.  Needs a few years in bottle."

About Latour Giraud

The Latour-Giraud estate has been established in the village of Meursault for many generations. Focused primarily on Meursault, the estate owns an impressive range of Premier Cru and Villages vineyards between 20 and 50+ years old. Latour-Giraud specializes in white burgundy, which accounts for 80% of their production. They own an impressive 2 ha within Meursault, and also have holdings of Puligny-Montrachet Champs Canet and red vineyards in Pommard, Volnay, Maranges and Meursault Caillerets.

In the 1990s, with the arrival of the genial and perfectionist winemaker Jean-Pierre Latour, the estate has undergone "true cultural revolution". In a major commitment to improving quality, Jean-Pierre upgraded the quality of his new barrel program and adopted lutte raisonnée, primarily organic agricultural practices, in the vineyards. He cut yields to 25-35 hectoliters per hectare and began working with Patrick Lesec in the 1994 vintage to master the art of non-interventionist wine-making.

Jean-Pierre ferments 100% free-run juice with wild yeasts. The Premier Cru wines are aged in 40-70% new barrels depending on the character of the wine and the vintage. During élevage the wines are kept on their lees as long as possible and racking is kept to a minimum. They are fined, but not filtered, and bottled by hand. Jean-Pierre carefully monitors each wine and bottles only when he deems them ready over the course of a six month period.  Jean-Pierre's wines are classic white Burgundies: intense and concentrated, stylish and powerful, layered and balanced.
