 "Denis Varnier's NV Brut Cuvée St. Denis is an exceptional wine endowed with superb depth, crystalline purity and fabulous overall balance. Lemon oil, pastry, white flowers and crushed rocks all literally jump out of the glass in this beautifully expressive Champagne. The St. Denis remains bright, floral and perfumed throughout, showing a slightly brighter side of Chardonnay than the Jean Fannière. The Cuvée St. Denis, from a parcel with 70+ year old vines in Avize, is stunning today. This release is equal parts 2009 and 2008 vintages, disgorged in May 2013. Dosage was 7 grams/liter."

 "The 2006 Brut Blanc de Blancs from Diebolt-Vallois is gorgeous from the very first taste. Hints of brioche, nutmeg, pears and dried apricots flesh out in the glass. The 2006 is rich, deep and fleshy. Warm, toasty notes add considerable depth and textural richness, while sweet floral and mineral overtones add finish vibrancy to the finish. This gorgeous, beautifully balanced Champagne is firing on all cylinders. I imagine the 2006 will be even better in another few years when more tertiary notes develop, but it is highly pleasing even today. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2026. "

 "NV Varnier Fanniere Grand Cru Rose Brut

($69) (92% chardonnay and 8% pinot noir, mostly from 2010 and 30% from 2009; aged for 36 months on its lees and disgorged in May, 2013): Light pink. Mineral-accented aromas and flavors of blood orange, anise and ginger. Excellent tension here. Dry, silky and penetrating, displaying very good lift and spiciness. Finishes lively and taut, with impressive clarity and length."
