92 POINTS  -  Stephen Tanzer

"Vivid red. Highly fragrant, displaying scents of red berries, rose and baking spices, with a hint of white pepper. Smells like a sexy Burgundy. Lithe and precise raspberry and cherry flavors show a suave blend of sweetness and energy, with zesty acidity adding lift. Finishes on a nervy mineral note, with an excellent, floral-dominated persistence. I underestimated this wine when I tasted it last year."

Trimming Rootstock
Jean-Luc & Jean-Paul's father Grafting Rootstocks

Located high above the town of Ampuis and the Rhône River, Domaine Jamet produces tiny quantities of stunning Côte-Rôtie.  The work is divided between the two brothers, and over the past fifteen years Jean-Luc and Jean-Paul have done much to improve the estate.

The Jamets have 8 hectares of vines averaging between 25 and 50 years old. They own 25 separate parcels which they vinify separately.   Yields are kept consistently low (35 hectolitre per hectare), with 75% of fruit coming from the Côte Brune and 25% from the Côte Blonde. They believe the "sum is greater than the parts ", so they prefer to produce a blend of Côtes Brune and Blonde rather than single-vineyard wines

The cave is now completely gravity fed, allowing them to make their wine without pushing the fruit or pumping the juice.   Jamet Côte-Rôtie is aged in 20% new oak. The remaining wine is aged in oak barrels ranging from 3 to 10 years of age for close to 22 months.
