Robert Parker on Domaine des Remizières
"Domaine des Remizieres is one of the few family-run estates in Hermitage. Like the Chave family in Mauves, this closely-knit unit of father, Philippe Desmeures, and daughter, Emilie, manage the vineyard and produce modern-styled, super-concentrated wines that see plenty of new oak. The level of concentration found in these red wines is among the most impressive found in their respective appellations " - Issue #182 April 2009

"The Hermitage Cuvee Emilie (named after the proprietor's charming daughter) includes the outstanding 2011. It possesses an inky/black color as well as attractive notes of creosote, black truffles, asphalt, blackberries and cassis, big extraction but no bitterness, low acidity and ripe tannins. This full-bodied, multidimensional, opulently styled Hermitage should be drinkable in 2-4 years and last for 15-20."

92 POINTS- Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar
"(made from 55% marsanne and 45% roussanne, raised in 70% new oak): Bright gold. A wild, highly perfumed bouquet presents poached pear, marzipan, honey and chamomile, with vanilla and ginger notes in the background. Fleshy and broad but lively, offering sappy orchard and pit fruit flavors and bracing mineral and lemon zest accents. Shows excellent clarity and power on the impressively persistent finish, which echoes the honey and mineral notes."

Philippe Desmeures
|
THE STORY:
Philippe and, his daughter, Emilie are the third and fourth generations of the Desmeures family make wine in the Northern Rhone. The family owns vineyards in Hermitage, Crozes-Hermitage and St. Joseph with vines ranging in age from 20 to over 60 years old. From these vineyards they produce rich, textured, highly aromatic whites from Crozes-Hermitage and Hermitage and classic, deep, dark and dense Syrah from all three appellations.
The Desmeures concentrate their wines in the vineyard by maintaining low yields and harvesting only when fully ripe. The wines are fermented in barrel and kept on their lees for an extended period. Very little SO2 is used and the wines are not fined or filtered. Bottling is done gently to prevent oxidation and loss of freshness. Philippe and Emilie have catapulted this estate into the top rank of producers in the Northern Rhône. The kind of concentration, complexity and minerality found here simply cannot be taken for granted.
