 | | Marco Mantengoli |
The Mantengoli family have been prominent growers in Montalcino for three generations. Andrea Mantengoli runs the highly regarded La Serena estate and since 1997 his cousin, Marco Mantengoli, has been the proprietor of La Rasina. The wines have always been quick to sell out, but commercial success has never been Marco's primary motivation: he is driven by a desire to produce wines which express the full potential of sangiovese grosso grown in the unique environment of Montalcino.
La Rasina is located on the south-east facing slopes below the town of Montalcino that are regarded by many insiders as the finest terroir in the region. Perfectly exposed to the Tuscan Sun, La Rasina's vines consistently produce highly aromatic wines with concentrated plum and cherry flavours and a backbone of minerality. They are intense and powerful, but also generously textured wines that have an approachability when young rivaled by few in the area. This by no means disqualifies them for aging - it simply means that actually keeping them becomes a challenge!
