93 POINTS - Stephen Tanzer

"(aged for 60 months on its lees and disgorged May 3, 2012):  Light gold.  Pungent, mineral-accented citrus and pit fruit aromas, with sexy mango and floral nuances.  Concentrated, spicy and  smooth in texture, offering pliant peach, pear and lemon curd flavors and a bracing mineral nuance.  Finishes impressively deep and very long, with a taut citrus zest character and lingering floral notes."

93 POINTS - Wine Advocate
"The richest of these Champagnes, the 2006 Brut Chardonnay Blanc de Blancs Premier Cru Cuvee Fleuron shows just how much extended time on the lees (in this case 60 months) can shape a wine. This is the deepest and most textured Champagne in the Gimonnet lineup. Chamomile, mint, pears, white peaches and almonds all flesh out beautifully in the glass. The Fleuron is generous and inviting as it fills out in all directions. This is a hugely inviting wine from Gimonnet. Disgorgement date: May 3, 2012. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2021.

Didier Gimonnet's Champagnes are cool, bracing and pure. All of the wines undergo malolactic fermentation - yet remain very much wiry - and are aged exclusively in stainless steel."

Gimonnet vineyards in Cuis
Champagne's Chardonnay champion

The Gimonnet family has been growing vines in Champagne since 1750. In 1935 Pierre Gimonnet, grandfather of current owners Didier and Olivier, began producing champagne in the village of Cuis.

Didier and Olivier own 30 hectares in total; 16 hectares are Premier Cru from the village of Cuis. A high percentage of their vineyards are Grand Cru - 12 hectares in total, spread across the villages of Cramant, Chouilly, Oger and Aÿ. The Grand Cu vineyards have an average age of 40 years.  All the Pierre Gimonnet wines go through primary fermentation and malolactic fermentation in stainless steel tanks. Reserve wines are stored in bottle as opposed to tank, which is the norm in Champagne. This is done to slow down the evolution process and maintain freshness.

Gimonnet Brut Premier Cru 'Fleuron' is quintessential Blanc de Blancs, produced only in the finest years. Despite the 1er Cru designation, nearly half of the blend is from the Grand Cru of Chouilly (the other components are Grand Cru Cramant,Oger and 1er Cru Cuis) which would explain the richness of the wine, all the more impressive given its impeccable balance and finesse.

"One of Champagne's emerging superstars. 100% blanc de blancs. "La magic des assemblages pour les amateurs de nuances." Compexity, freshness , finesse. Emblematic 'new Champagne'. Superlative quality."
