(92) POINTS - Wine Advocate (April 2013, Issue #206)

"The 2011 Pinot Noir Laguna jumps from the glass with dark red berries, mint, flowers and spices. There is an immediacy and voluptuousness to the fruit that is striking. Sage, rosemary and juniper berries are some of the nuances that add complexity on the savory, inviting finish. I very much like the sense of energy here. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2021."

91 POINTS - Stephen Tanzer (May/June 2013)

"Bright ruby-red.  Sexy, smoke-accented red and dark berry preserves on the nose, with a potpourri quality adding complexity.  Sweet, expansive black raspberry and candied rose flavors are supported by tangy minerality and pack a solid punch.  The brisk, persistent finish repeats the red fruit preserve and floral notes and shows very good clarity and spiciness."

(93+) POINTS - Wine Advocate (April 2013, Issue #206)

"The 2011 Pinot Noir Alberigi is one of the least expressive of these 2011s. The stems are a bit prominent today, so further cellaring is a must. Still, there is a primal energy in the fruit that is unbelievably attractive. The 2011 should be a jewel once it opens up a bit in bottle. It is quite promising, even today, finishing with great persistence. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2021."

92 POINTS - Stephen Tanzer (May/June 2013)

"Vivid ruby-red.  Heady aromas of dark raspberry, mocha and minerals, with an Asian spice nuance gaining power with aeration.  Silky, broad and sweet, but with lively acidity and floral notes giving excellent energy and lift to the mid-palate.  Complex, nicely persistent pinot, with firm finishing minerality and only a trace of tannins."

91 POINTS - Stephen Tanzer (May/June 2013)

"Vivid red.  Suave red berry and floral aromas, with complicating notes of cola, cocoa and licorice.  Silky, nicely balanced and fresh, with energetic red berry flavors that gain flesh and weight with air.  This elegant, focused and fat-free pinot finishes with sweet red fruit flavors and very good length."

Eric Sussman

The Story

Born and raised in New York State, Eric Sussman developed a passion for wine-growing while studying agriculture at Cornell University. Inspired by wine's unique connection with its place of origin Eric set out to work with and learn from world-class producers at home and abroad. He spent several years working in the vineyards and cellars of small artisan producers in Washington State, where he managed vineyards through the organic certification process. Making wine from organic fruit drove home the relationship between vineyard practices and wine quality.

Sussman moved to France in the mid 90's where he spent time working at the respected estates of Domaine Comte Armand and Domaine Jacques Prieur in Burgundy. Returning to the United States in 1997, Eric headed for northern California and collaborated on the wines at Bonny Doon, followed by a four year stint as associate winemaker at Dehlinger in Sonoma.

In 2002 Eric established Radio-Coteau. He has since gained great acclaim for his natural terroir driven wines. Fruit from Biodynamically farmed vineyards is fermented with a percentage of whole clusters, always with native yeasts. The resulting wines are bottled without fining or filtration. This is an outstanding producer, producing some of the purest examples of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Syrah in California today.
