Robert Parker on Domaine des Remizières
"Domaine des Remizieres is one of the few family-run estates in Hermitage. Like the Chave family in Mauves, this closely-knit unit of father, Philippe Desmeures, and daughter, Emilie, manage the vineyard and produce modern-styled, super-concentrated wines that see plenty of new oak. The level of concentration found in these red wines is among the most impressive found in their respective appellations " - Issue #182 April 2009

92+ POINTS- Wine Advocate - Issue #204
"Made in a more modern, super-concentrated, tannic style, the full-bodied, extracted 2010 Crozes-Hermitage Cuvee Christophe reveals enormous quantities of charcoal, grilled meats, barbecue smoke, blackberries and cassis, huge tannins and equally colossal fruit extract. This unctuously textured, full-bodied red will benefit from 2-3 years of cellaring and keep for 15 or more.
Make no mistake about the wines from Domaine des Remizieres - they are very bold, exuberant, even flamboyant reds with tremendous richness. One might also call them "modern-styled" given the elevated use of toasty new oak for the top cuvees.

Philippe Desmeures

THE STORY:
Philippe is the third generation of his family to farm their property, but 1996 was the first vintage he controlled. The family owns vineyards in Hermitage and Crozes Hermitage ranging in age from 20 to over 60 years of age. Philippe produces fresh, bright and toasty whites from both appellations as well as the classic deep, dark and dense reds based on 100% Syrah, which are named after his daughter Emilie and son Christophe. Today, Emilie has a degree in oenology and assists Philippe in the winery.
Philippe concentrates his wines by maintaining low yields and harvesting when fully ripe. His wines are fermented in barrel and kept on their lees for an extended period. Very little SO2 is used and the wines are not fined or filtered. Bottling is done gently to prevent oxidation and loss of freshness.
This soft-spoken winemaker has quickly catapulted his estate into the top rank of producers in the Northern Rhône. This kind of concentration, complexity and minerality cannot be taken for granted in Hermitage-even at twice the price, making the value found here something truly special.
