Tikal
'Amorio'
Altos de Mendoza 2010
REGION: Mendoza, ARGENTINA
VARIETAL: 100% Malbec
PRICE: $35.00 / bottle
DRINKABILTY: 2013 - 2020
91+ POINTS - Wine Advocate (December 2011, Issue #198) "The 2010 Amorio is 100% Malbec from the Vista Flores and Altamira Vineyards with an average age of 44 years. The wine spent 14 months in French and American oak, a bit of it new, before bottling without fining or filtration. Dark ruby red in color, it exhibits an already complex aromatic array of cedar, cinnamon, mocha, violets, black cherry, and plum. More structured than the two previous wines and not as forward, this savory effort will benefit from another 1-2 years of cellaring and deliver prime drinking from 2013 to 2022."
90 POINTS - Stephen Tanzer (March/April 2012) "Good bright ruby-red. Complex nose melds blackberry, chocolate, licorice, wild herbs and smoky minerality. Creamy, lush and sweet but with just enough acidity to give it balance. This sexy, seamless wine finishes with very sweet, edge-free tannins..."

TIKAL
Tikal "Amorio" is made by fourth generation winemaker Ernesto Catena, eldest son of Nicholas Catena Zapata and brother of Laura Catena.
Ernesto is a world traveler and polymath, with degrees in Computer Science/Economics, Design, and History from universities in Buenos Aires, Milan and London. He is a legendary Bohemian, renowned for his insatiable curiosity and passionate devotion to the arts of writing, painting, photography, horsemanship, polo and archery. It is not surprising that his wines are profoundly expressive, or that he would declare that 'magic' is a key component of fine wine.
Tikal wines are meant to express Ernesto's passion for the "magical high-desert oasis" of Mendoza. Amorio or "Love affair" is unabashedly New World in style, fresh, vibrant and full of vitality.
