94 POINTS - Wine Spectator

"So distinctive, with fresh bay leaf, leather, pepper and tobacco notes leading the way, followed by mulled plum, currant and cherry fruit. Lots of bitter cherry and charred apple wood drive through the very long finish, which is thoroughly mouthwatering thanks to its acidity. Best from 2013 through 2025. 2,500 cases made"  Web only 2012

93 POINTS  -  Stephen Tanzer

"Deep ruby. Vibrant aromas of blackberry, kirsch, licorice, violet and smoky Indian spices. Firm and intense, with alluring sweetness and fleshiness to the red and dark berry and floral pastille flavors. The very fine tannins quickly fade into the high-pitched fruit on the smoky, minerally back end. This is very pretty and impressively complex right now; I'd drink it before the less-evolved 2006."    Jan/Feb 2010

Trimming Rootstock
Jean-Luc & Jean-Paul's father Grafting Rootstocks
We all need a little Côte-Rôtie in our lives...

Located high above the town of Ampuis and the Rhône River, Domaine Jamet produces tiny quantities of stunning Côte-Rôtie.  The work is divided between the two brothers, and over the past fifteen years Jean-Luc and Jean-Paul have done much to improve the estate.

The Jamets have 8 hectares of vines averaging between 25 and 50 years old. They own 25 separate parcels which they vinify separately.   Yields are kept consistently low (35 hectolitre per hectare), with 75% of fruit coming from the Côte Brune and 25% from the Côte Blonde. They believe the "sum is greater than the parts ", so they prefer to produce a blend of Côtes Brune and Blonde rather than single-vineyard wines

The cave is now completely gravity fed, allowing them to make their wine without pushing the fruit or pumping the juice.   Jamet Côte-Rôtie is aged in 20% new oak. The remaining wine is aged in oak barrels ranging from 3 to 10 years of age for close to 22 months.
