94+ POINTS - Wine Advocate (April 2012, Issue #200)
"The 2007 Brunello di Montalcino is compelling from the very first taste. It boasts fabulous concentration and depth, with just enough tannin and aromatic complexity to balance some of the wine's more overt leanings. Dark red cherries, flowers, licorice, mint and spices are layered into the big, dramatic finish. Hints of kirsch and rose petals linger in the empty glass. The 2007 is distinguished by an open, Pinot-like bouquet and a voluptuous personality. The wine was aged one year in cask and a second year in 600-liter demi-muids. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2027.

The 2010 vintage was rated 5 stars (Classic Vintage) by the Consorzio del Vino Brunello di Montalcino. The 2010 Rosso is a  great snapshot of Pieri Agostina's  Brunello di Montalcino.

Pieri Agostina Brunello di Montalcino
View of the Vineyards at Pieri Agostina
Pieri Agostina may have inherited 10 hectares of vineyards from his father, however it was his son Francesco Monaci who inherited the genes of a great winemaker. Francesco is a man of determination and has a serious taste for quality. He is the nephew of famed producer Giancarlo Pacenti, the esteemed and respected winemaker of Siro Pacenti.  With his craftsmanship he has elevated the quality and status of Pieri Agostina to a new level.

Founded in 1991 (1994 being their first Brunello release) they have fast gained a reputation as one of the best producers in the region.   The vineyards benefit from a full southern exposure. This allows for exceptional ripeness even in the old, low-vigor clones favored by  Francesco. His aim is to achieve the  purest possible expression of Sangiovese Grosso in both the Rosso and Brunello di Montalcino.  In fact Pieri Agostina is one of the few estates to take Rosso as seriously as Brunello, and Pieri is one of the only producers to receive Gambero Rosso's prestigious Tre Bicchieri for his Rosso di Montalcino. Francesco's wines have power but velvety tannins, great presence of fresh fruits and rich complexity in the finish.
