The web is a wonderful thing, so much information and so easy to find. It does, however have a downside. Whatever is posted can rarely be completely removed. Sometimes that's a good thing. It was when I needed to recreate a page for one of my websites. I was able to pull a screen shot from two years prior and copy the language. Sometimes it isn't.
Recently, a firm was interested in retaining my services but they were not forthcoming about their intent or their history. Since I love a good mystery, I got on line and began searching based on the information they had given me. Within 15 minutes I was able to determine who the principals were, find the various websites they were using for their marketing, get a good feel for how they do business, and also find the websites they were no longer using. I then called them to let them know I was not interested - I just wouldn't be comfortable doing business with them based on what I had found.
Because the internet is where people can easily find out about you, it's up to you to make sure that the picture remains accurate and up to date. I recommend reviewing your websites and posted information on a monthly basis to update it and make any required corrections. Don't let your history cast a dark shadow over your business.
