Strategic Decisions
October, 2013

Fall is definitely in the air. The leaves of the maple tree next door are starting to turn bright yellow, it's football season, and before we know it the holidays will be upon us.

I've been thinking a lot about how decisions are made, both on a personal level and on the business and corporate levels. Are your decisions strategic in nature? Ask yourself a few questions:

Is it important? Does it help me, help the business, drive revenue? If it isn't important, why does it need to be done?

Is it urgent? If so, do we have the resources - time, money, technology, hardware, people and expertise - to do it right now? If not, how could it possibly get done?

If it's not both urgent and important, it might fall into a lesser category like monitor the situation or look at it later. It might also be one of those things you shouldn't even worry about - ever.

Whether for corporate strategic planning or just prioritizing your personal to-do list, this approach can save time and reduce stress. Give it a try. And, if you can't stop worrying about the trivial, watch this famous 6 minute video
