Brenda Bufalino presents Poems With a Beat
Ms Bufalino recites and reads from her book of poems "Circular Migrations" accompanied by her digital looped taps, videos and projections.
May 24, 2016 - 7:30pm (FREE) Westbeth Community Room 55 Bethune Street(corner of Washington St.) (Come early. There is no charge) Bufalino; Dancer, author, poet, and ceramic sculptor, is a master Tap Dance artist, and has written the texts for her numerous One Person Shows, that include "Cantata & The Blues," "Diary of a Woodpecker," and "That's Jazz Then," which she has performed internationally for over thirty years. For her highly acclaimed company, the American Tap Dance Orchestra, she choreographed, and wrote the text for her Tap Opera, "Gertrude's Nose...the Far West Promontory," with original music, sung and composed by Jay Clayton. Among her many poems she will be reading from the "Mountain Suite," excerpted from her libretto. She has written numerous articles for Dance Magazines, wrote the new forward and afterward for the book "Jazz Dance by Marshall and Jean Stearns." A book of poems, "Circular Migrations," and her memoir "Tapping the Source...tap dance stories, theory, and practice," were both published by Codhill press. She has been awarded numerous fellowships and two of her choreographies were recently recognized by the NEA as American Masterpieces. Amazon. com review by Richard Wells...."With "TAPPING THE SOURCE...," Brenda Bufalino has given us a brilliantly titled and generously written professional memoir....Brenda is an artist with a capital A. As a being she transcends her chosen forms. Her book will be purchased by dancers, but it's a book for artists, so if you are on the path, "Tapping the Source..." is a useful map.
