A comprehensive training program in teaching rhythm tap to children, teens, and adults

Absolute Beginner Workshop

Designed especially to give new students a chance to learn the basic steps and vocabulary of tap dance, this workshop is a great way to learn the FUNdamental skills needed to join our BEGINNER tap class, or "brush up on the basics." No experience necessary, loaner shoes are available.

A choreo-lab for advanced and intermediate level tap dancers to explore tap composition, improvisation, and jazz music fundamentals. Students will develop their own tap performance works.

Rhythm in Motion  


Rhythm in Motion returns to the Theater at the 14th Street Y with two fresh and innovative tap dance programs, premiering Wednesday, April 22 and running through Sunday, April 26. 


It features six performances over five days, showcasing the rich diversity of contemporary tap dance with a combination of young and emerging talent as well as premier choreographers in the field.

Tap Treasures


ATDF is preparing for its First Annual Tap Treasures Event, a Tap Dance Hunt & Tour.


During the week of May 17-24th, 2015, get ready to follow your tap dance treasure maps leading you throughout New York City's most treasured and historic tap dance locations. We've picked the best tap dance points of interest in NYC, and we want you to discover them, take a photo at them, and answer special clues regarding each place .


A winner, which is the person/group who finishes their Tap Treasure Hunt and Tour the quickest, will be announced at a special outdoor event and performance produced by the ATDF in celebration of National Tap Dance Day. Location TBA. The winner will take home a $500 ATDF Gift Certificate, which can be used for merchandise, classes, Tap City, etc.

Betty Carter blazed her own trail as one of the most original jazz vocalists of our time. Her flawless phrasing, uncanny unpredictability, and signature glissando placed her in a league of her own as a true "musician's singer." Drummer and music director Alcester Garnett and vocalist Charenee Wade celebrate the legacy of Carter, who would have turned eighty-five this year. Tap dancing by: Alexandria Brinae Bradley, Frances Bradley & Michela Marino Lerman.

Brooklyn Dance Festival is a platform that provides service, outreach, and performance opportunities in a state of the art theater for professional companies, emerging artists and youth ensembles in the NYC area.
