JA of North Central Ohio

empowering young people to own their economic success

Our goal in everything we do at Junior Achievement of North Central Ohio is to be a solutions provider. We have another opportunity to do that for our school partners with the introduction this year of 'Career Connections,' a requirement from the Ohio Department of Education that schools link student coursework to career fields for grades 6-12.

JANCO staff took advantage of our relationships with many school district superintendents and curriculum directors and reached out early in the school year to remind the school officials that Junior Achievement programs meet these requirements. This has helped us grow our middle and high school programs throughout our 12-county area.

We also like to show we're a solutions provider regarding volunteer opportunities.  Many businesses provide groups of employees to teach JA programs, and utilize the whole experience as a 'team-building exercise.' Our staff strives to fill the needs of the volunteer organization - whether it's a traditional delivery or a JA in a day; or finding a school close to company headquarters. We've got the solution!

That same attitude is how we approach potential donors. We ask an individual what their philanthropic goals are, then work to show them how JA's mission, to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy, and JA's pillars, Workforce Readiness, Financial Literacy and Entrepreneurship, meet those goals.

Thank you for those opportunities you give us to be your solutions provider, too!

JA & Honda Financial Services Partner to Provide Students with "Nuts and Bolts" Knowledge of Car Ownership

A new national survey finding that teen drivers lack basic knowledge of automobile finance and total vehicle ownership costs has sparked Junior Achievement USA (JA) and American Honda Finance Corporation (AHFC) to create a new website, www.financialtestdrive.org, to help young drivers navigate the financial aspects of owning and maintaining a vehicle. JA and AHFC launched the new web tool as JA released the findings of the recent survey they commissioned.

The national survey of 500 16- and 17-year-old drivers found that new drivers would benefit from basic education about the automobile loan process and the costs of vehicle ownership. For example, when asked what type of information is typically requested on a car loan application, 45% of respondents did not know that proof of income was required by auto lenders.

The new website enables young drivers to test their knowledge of auto finance and vehicle ownership costs through an interactive quiz. The site also provides helpful information and terminology related to auto financing options, auto insurance coverage, routine maintenance and budgeting. The goal is to help young drivers make better-informed decisions.

2015 JA Golf Invitational Benefits Over 1700 Students

The 2015 JA Golf Invitational was held Friday, August 7 at the Ohio Prestiwck County Club in Uniontown. The event, which raised more than $44,000 in support of JA programs throughout North Central Ohio, will directly benefit 1,760 students in local schools.

Participants of the JA Golf Invitational receive one-day passes to the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational, which coincides with the JA event. Dairy Enterprises served as this year's Ticket Sponsor, generously covering the cost of tournament tickets for JA golfers.

Junior Achievement also had the opportunity to raise additional funds through the TICKETS fore CHARITY program. This initiative gives non-profit organizations the chance to fundraise by selling tickets to the
Bridgestone Invitational. This year, Junior Achievement of North Central Ohio was proud to be named the top non-profit ticket seller for the tournament. We greatly appreciate the opportunity to partner with the PGA for the TICKETS fore CHARITY program and look forward to future collaborations.
