Directed by Paul Newman

Laemmle Pick of the Week TRASHED If you think waste is someone else's problem...think again. Jeremy Irons looks at the risks to the food chain and the environment through pollution of our air, land and sea by waste. The film reveals surprising truths about very immediate and potent dangers to our health. It is a global conversation from Iceland to Indonesia between the film star Jeremy Irons and scientists, politicians and ordinary individuals whose health and livelihoods have been fundamentally affected by waste pollution. TRASHED director Candida Brady and Captain Charlie Moore, the person who discovered 'Garbage Island' and the founder of the Algalita Marine Research Foundation, will participate in a Q&A at the NoHo after the 7:10 PM screening on Friday, December 14. |

Landmark Pick of the Week
Stand Up Guys is a tough but touching action comedy starring Al Pacino, Christopher Walken and Alan Arkin as retired gangsters who reunite for one epic last night. Val (Pacino) is released from prison after serving twenty-eight years for refusing to give up one of his close criminal associates. His best friend Doc (Walken) is there to pick him up, and the two soon reteam with another old pal, Hirsch (Arkin). Their bond is as strong as ever, and the three reflect on freedom lost and gained, loyalties ebbed and flowed, and days of glory gone by.
Director Dustin Hoffman will appear in person on Saturday, December 15 for a Q&A after the 5:00pm show, and Sunday, December 16 for a Q&A after the 5:00pm show.

PICK OF THE WEEK
The schedule is definitely holiday heavy, if you want to be a little anti-Christmas then check out the Grindhouse Film Festival's Annual Holiday Screening at the New Beverly where they will be showing BLACK CHRISTMAS and SILENT NIGHT DEADLY NIGHT PART 2.
Our friends at the HollyShorts Film Festival are starting up their monthly screening series this Friday leading up to the actual festival on August 15th - 25th. It's a great event to network and watch shorts from up and coming filmmakers.
On Saturday, don't miss the Cinefamily's 2nd Annual Fantastic Elastic 24-Hour Holiday Telethon. There will be lots of special guest and your support with help keep them running.
If the world ends next Friday, it's been a pleasure serving you.

THE GIRL
For two years Ashley Colton (Abbie Cornish, Limitless), a rough, ragged beauty in her mid-twenties, has walked a tightrope, trying to prove that she is fit to be a mother to regain custody of her son. She has survived on a series of minimum wage jobs and endured the probing scrutiny of Social Services' home visits. Cynical and embittered, she is convinced her son was taken away from her because she is poor. After a surprise visit from her father, a truck driver living in Mexico, she discovers that he is smuggling immigrants across the border. Suddenly, in the vast, unforgiving landscape of south Texas, Ashley glimpses a solution to her problems-serving the role of a coyote with the prospect of easy money.
Actress Abbie Cornish will appear in person for a Q&A on Friday, December 14 after the 7:30pm show, joined by director David Riker for a Q&A Saturday, December 15 after the 7:30pm show. David Riker will appear in person on Sunday, December 16 for a Q&A after the 5:00pm show.
