IAWF NY Chapter Hosts Dr. Donna Shalala Event
| |
IAWF NY Chapter was fortunate to host Dr. Donna Shalala for an intimate dinner with key influencers of the IAWF network. Dr. Shalala was the United States Secretary of Health and Human Services under President Bill Clinton from 1993 to 2001. She then served as the president of the University of Miami from 2001 to 2015. Dr. Shalala was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation's highest civilian honor, by President George W. Bush in June 2008. Currently, Dr. Shalala leads the Clinton Foundation.
In her interactions with the group, Dr. Shalala spoke of the importance of networking, and explained that much of her success came from making and maintaining relationships. She encouraged our network to build out and nurture our contacts. She stated that given the members she met, it would prove to be an amazing collection of movers and shakers. Having spent three years in Iran early in her professional career, Dr. Shalala is also very well versed on Iran; our culture, our cuisine and our rich heritage. A lover of Iran, she was a joy to host! The dinner was kindly hosted by NY member Maryam Ansary at her home. The event was organized in support of "IRAN WEEK," specifically the efforts of Nowruz at the Met's, with the upcoming Seljuk exhibition that opened on April 25th.
