Women's Leadership Conference in San Diego

It is with immense excitement that the Iranian American Women Foundation announces its 10th Women's Leadership Conference! The conference will be hosted on February 28th, 2016 at the Westin San Diego Gaslamp Quarter. Moreover, it will feature a diverse array of engaging speakers, empowering stories, and opportunities to connect with fellow members of the IAWF community. IAWF would like to congratulate member Dr. Derayeh Derakhshesh for receiving France's highest cultural honor; Derayeh was made a Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters (Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres) by the Government of France and will be presented with the award February 2016, at the French Embassy in Washington, DC. She is being recognized for her devotion in maintaining a high level of commitment to the teaching and promotion of French language, culture and literature, and for her significant "contribution in furthering French culture" in the world. A member of Howard University faculty since 1984, she focuses her research on late 19th and early 20th century French Literature, Women Studies, Translation, Contemporary Persian Literature. Derayeh is an Advisory Editor for the CLA Journal, the official quarterly publication of the College Language Association, a professional organization of college teachers of English and foreign languages serving the U.S. academic community since its foundation in 1937. She is currently working on a book, entitled, Le silence se brise (The Silence is Breaking). This is a feminist reading of three novels by three Francophone writers. IAWF's Southern California Chapter Reemerges
|
The Iranian American Women Foundation is excited to reignite our talented leadership for the reemergence of the Southern California Chapter, our organization's inaugural team. The Southern California Chapter held its welcome reception on January 28, 2016. Similar to its previous work, this chapter will be focusing on conference and event planning, as well as serving as a hub for IAWF's many resources. With a plethora of successful professionals and dedicated IAWF members in this region, it is no doubt that their work will be greatly impactful to the overall mission and vision of the organization. Saba Vahdat
New York
Panelist for the upcoming Women's Leadership Conference Saba Vahdat, 24, is a rising star in our community. Saba is the founder and president of Empire Advisory Group, a consulting firm that specializes in helping clients obtain mortgage-recording tax refunds and deal with building violations. Her team provides services for over 350 New York property owners. Saba also serves as the Vice President of ELMO Realty Co. Inc., working on the expansion of the company's real estate interests. Bita Daryabari
Northern California
Philanthropist, humanitarian, and member of the IAWF Board of Trustees, Bita Daryabari made a gift to UC Davis that will broaden the university's Persian Studies program; for this, she was recognized on January 26, 2016. As a result of the aforementioned, UC Davis will be establishing the Bita Daryabari Presidential Chair in Persian Language and Literature. Her gift will transform UC Davis into a leading force in teaching and research that advances understanding of Persian culture. Read more about Bita here.

Kathy Kangarloo
Southern California
Dr. Kathy Kangarloo is the founder of "emerging Om" and speaker for the biggest spiritual conference in the world, Yoga Kumbha 2016 Ujjain; Oprah Winfrey and Deepak Chopra are among the speakers. Kathy has taught and practiced yoga, Reiki, and meditation for over 25 years. When in India, Kathy learned of the boundless opportunities and developed "Yukt Yoga."
