Directory
RESIDENT DIRECTORY
We are going forward with a 2016 Resident Directory.  Watch for more information in future mailings and emails.
Q: Do both gates still have security cameras that take pictures of all cars that go through the gates?

A: Yes, both gates have security cameras that are active at all times.
Q: What do I do if I lose my mailbox key, does the HOA have copies?

A: The HOA does not have any mailbox keys. If you lose your keys, you need to contact the Post Office and fill out a form. You may also want to talk to your mail carrier before heading to the Post Office and see what action he/she recommends. Other residents have found the mail carriers to be very helpful.

STOP AT STOP SIGNS AND SLOW DOWN!
Nice weather brings kids and adults out so obey the traffic signs and help KEEP HERITAGE HILLS SAFE. Adult drivers please set a good example.  Continued reports of speeding will necessitate consideration of additional speed humps and stop signs.

BE SAFE-DO NOT LET KIDS PLAY ON COMMERCIAL EQUIPMENT
Remind your kids it is not safe or appropriate to play on or around commercial equipment-landscaping equipment, snow removal equipment, etc. parked in Heritage Hills.

PUT YOUR TRASH AND RECYCLE OUT/IN AT THE APPROPRIATE TIMES
Per our Community Standards: The receptacle/toter should only be placed out at the curb between 5:00 P.M. the day before trash removal and stored by 10:00 P.M. the day of trash removal
Many neighbors would rather be asked to help with this than see your Trash and Recycle out hours/days before and/or after these designated times.

DISPOSE OF YARD WASTE CORRECTLY
Pro Disposal Inc. who provides trash and recycling service for the City of Lone Tree and its residents will pick up 15 bags of yard waste (leaves and grass) and branches and brush cut into 4 foot lengths and tied securely in 24" diameter bundles.
Limits -10 bundles/week and maximum bag weight of 40 lbs.
Want more information-Click Here to get to the City of Lone Tree website.

My grandparents, Paul and Paulette Wasserstein, moved into Heritage Hills about 20 years ago, one of the first families in the neighborhood.  I am Hannah Vest and I am just 15, so I don't have any memories of their previous home.  Mine begin with the many 8-hour drives our family would make from Utah to Denver, arriving in time to celebrate a holiday together or to enjoy a long weekend.  My grandpa, Paul, knows everything about houses because he sold real estate for many years, and he told me he was attracted to the area because Celebrity builds great homes.  They were immediately excited about the house because it has a perfect space for their grand piano.  My grandmother, Paulette, loved the view from the kitchen window where she could easily see the Nordstrom store.  My grandpa says though she can't see the store because so much has built up around it, that doesn't keep her from shopping there!
Now that my family lives in Lone Tree also, my grandparents are a big part of our daily life.  We have many family dinners together which always include a sleepover for my brother Jonah and me, including a "design-your-own" breakfast for each of us.  For me it always includes my grandmother's amazing smashed potatoes, just one of her many specialties.  I love cooking with her and learning all the "secrets."  My granddad's responsibility is being sure the battery-operated cars are all charged up so we can race cars in the cul-de-sac.
Our Grandad enjoys researching different restaurants, so we always get excited for one of our kids night's out.  We love getting dressed in going-out clothes and being treated like adults.  They have taken us to many places that the rest of the family have only heard about.
When my grandmom is not helping out with one of our carpools or cooking us gourmet sandwiches after school, she is probably doing lesson plans for the class she teaches at the Academy for Lifelong Learning.  She typically tries out lesson ideas on my brother and me.  It's very fun to have a teacher in the family.  Or, she may be knitting up one of her special hats or purses that she sells at the Lone Tree Craft Show each November.  My grandmom has taught me how to knit, but I'm not a pro yet. She keeps teasing me that I should forget about going to college and just join her crafting business.  Of course she's only kidding.
Now that both of my grandparents have leisure time, they go on great trips, just recently a cruise to the Panama Canal.  They also have a huge motorhome that they traveled in every winter for a number of years, exploring the Southwest, California, and many other places.  Whether they are traveling or just at home, both grandparents are huge sports fans-football, basketball, baseball. They have had Broncos season tickets since the start, so orange and blue runs deep in our family, including my uncle and aunt and two cousins in California who sometimes come to Denver just to go to a game with us.
Finally, my grandparents love the amenities of the community including the Lone Tree Arts Center.  They attend regularly and especially enjoy the summer outdoor concerts.  I guess you can tell, they are not moving any time soon!

RoofIS IT JUST A LEAK?
THIS COULD HAPPEN TO YOU!
A Heritage Hills resident shares his roofing experience.
Since 2009 I have been troubled with what we thought was a minor roof leak.  The builder of our home inspected the roof and stated only minor caulking was needed and refused to do anything else.  We had work done in 2014 and again 2 weeks ago-our minor roof leak became a $4500 repair bill and could have become much more.
During the most recent repair work, I was informed that one of the problems was that my roof was installed with turtle vents that were not properly seated.  This improper seating and a variety of other issues allowed the turtle vents to blow off and snow to fall into my attic. Fortunately I caught the problem when it was a leak. If I had not spotted the leak my ceiling might have collapsed as my neighbors' did in their son's bedroom.
The left is the previously installed turtle vent seat and the right is what it should be:

I ended up replacing 11 turtle vents on my roof and during that replacement process more workmanship problems were discovered. Even the Douglas County Building Inspector could not determine how the roof passed previous inspections.
Turtle vent should look like this:

A reliable roofer can inspect your roof and determine if you have this problem, too. If you would like more information please feel free to email me at [email protected].  I live on Sunset Hill Circle.

EVENING INSPECTIONS
If you see a vehicle driving slowly through the neighborhood after dark take note but also remember that it could be our Covenant Enforcement Inspector making sure our neighborhood is safe and violation free.  Don't be afraid to ask questions as she is very friendly and more than willing to talk with homeowners.
One of the areas of concentration during evening inspections is lighting. Each residence should have a post light which is on a 'photo cell' and each owner is responsible for making sure that yard post light is illuminated. A Friendly Reminder will be left if any light does not appear to be working properly. If any other lights in the community are out, the Inspector will notify our Community Manager so action can be taken to fix those lights as well.
Summary of the latest evening inspection:
  • 13 homeowners were notified of yard lights being out
  • 6 utility poles with lights out belonging to Xcel were identified and submitted to Xcel
  • Several pot lights on the Yosemite Gate House and 1 pillar light at the 9201 pool were out and submitted for maintenance
  • 10 overnight parking violations are being monitored for compliance
