JUST A REMINDER
Fire Hydrants

South Metro Fire Rescue Authority would like homeowners to be aware that they can not block fire hydrants in any way. Any vegetation (plants, flowers, bushes, etc.) need to be removed or at the very least trimmed down significantly as to not hinder their ability to access the hydrant to put out a fire.  And as we get into the winter months, please make sure the hydrants

are clear of snow.

Dear HH Expert,

Why were the new mulch areas constructed without any weed barrier? Who will be removing the weeds and grass that have already started to grow quickly in these areas?

How will the weed and grass be kept from growing in these areas? Was the cost of weed and grass removal from the mulch areas considered in the annual landscape maintenance budget?

I do not understand how you intend to keep the past beauty and well groomed quality of our common spaces in this new non barrier mulch area design.

Regards,

HH Resident

Dear HH Resident,

-The 3-4" layer of mulch that has been applied is thick enough to prevent new weed seeds from germinating by blocking sunlight and is as effective as landscape fabric. (Rock mulch beds require weed barrier because the gaps in the applied material allow weeds to grow easily.)

-Weed barrier inhibits the benefits and purpose of wood mulch. Wood mulch when applied directly to planting areas improves soil structure, enhances water infiltration, prevents erosion and compaction and moderates the soil temperature and moisture levels. This all leads to healthy, happy plants!

-Wood mulch tends to shift much more easily on weed barrier, creating areas of unsightly exposed cloth or plastic.

-If there is weed barrier under the wood mulch, as the wood mulch breaks down, it creates a habitat for weed growth.

-There is a weekly maintenance contract to handle weeds and/or grass if it does come through the mulch

-Yes, the cost was very much considered throughout the process. It has been factored in to the landscaping maintenance contract.

Santa & Sleigh Rides...
 A Memorable Success

300 residents flocked the Clubhouse Dec. 19th to enjoy hot cocoa and horse-drawn sleigh rides.  Over 120 children whispered their Christmas wishes to Santa.  A total of $791.96 was raised to be donated to The Gathering Place, a center for women experiencing homelessness or poverty.  The HH Social Committee's 1st Annual Santa & Sleigh Rides will definitely become a
Heritage Hills tradition!

MEET YOUR NEIGHBORS!

Jill & Jonathan Terry

Hello.  We are Jill and Jonathan Terry. We moved to Colorado in 2013 when Jonathan took a new job with Arrow Electronics.  Before that, we worked together at Dell Finance in Austin, TX and London, England.  After 9 months of searching for a house in the greater Denver area, we found the perfect one for us here in HH, and have lived here just over a year.  We have two children; daughter Bronwyn (2), son Declan (10 mos.) and are expecting our third child early this summer.

We both love to travel, and have been lucky to visit some very interesting and exciting places. Jonathan's favorite destination so far is New Zealand.  He loves the sheer beauty of the mountains and fiords, along with the overall tranquility of the countryside. My favorite is our honeymoon destination of Bora Bora, with its stunning scenery as well as great snorkeling and diving.  We would both love to visit the Seychelles one day, and when the kids are old enough - Disney World! Jonathan is a native of England, where we've just taken the babies on vacation to visit friends and family.

You can find us walking along the bluffs, participating in fun runs, and simply taking the kids to the park for some play time.  Jonathan is a runner, has run 7 marathons, and is looking forward to getting back into training for some upcoming half marathons. I enjoy sleeping whenever possible and taking the babies to cheer daddy on during his races.

The move to Colorado has been fantastic for our family, and our choice to buy a house in Heritage Hills is one of the main reasons. We've made great friends, and have really enjoyed getting to meet our neighbors and other families through the HH Moms group.  We look forward to meeting more of you while we're out playing at the park or just walking the neighborhood enjoying the beautiful houses.
