Trout Valley Association Annual Meeting and Board Elections
The annual meeting will be held this year on September 18th at 3PM in the barn. The board has elected to start the meeting earlier than in the past in order to allow for ample time for public participation, counting votes, etc. In the next few weeks the board will be finalizing a draft budget which will be made available to ask questions and provide feedback prior to coming to a vote before the board in August.
All members will be receiving a packet of information in August that includes meeting materials for the annual meeting. The materials will include the agenda, ballots and envelopes for voting on board candidates, brief summaries of candidate qualifications, minutes from the last annual meeting, and the final association budget. Board members will be providing presentations at the annual meeting on their respective projects. Please keep an eye out for additional details in the newsletter on the budget and the annual meeting.

The Trout Valley Association Board's primary objective is to protect and enhance property values in Trout Valley by improving the appearance of our roads, bridges, ponds, grounds and other amenities, as well as cultivating a strong community spirit whereby all residents can enjoy an excellent quality of life. Finally, include a brief biography to introduce yourself to your neighbors.
Board terms typically run three years and begin the day after the annual meeting. While we are in the middle of summer and kids are out and about it's a good time for a few friendly reminders....
After experiencing some minor incidents of late night noise, littering, crime and vandalism in Trout Valley, a few residents have helped monitor our common areas within the Valley and have approached children and teens about whether they are residents and/or authorized to use the amenities like the park and ponds.
While their efforts are appreciated, the Association Board has received several complaints from concerned parents. We kindly ask that you keep in mind that most kids are taught at a young age to not speak with strangers nor provide their personal information, such as name and address.
If anyone witnesses suspect activity or feels compelled to speak with the children directly, please keep it to expressing your concerns about their safety, politely reminding them of applicable rules and then just simply move on. It is best to take up any concerns you may have with parents, if known, or the appropriate authority - such as our private security (Northwest Suburban Patrol) or the Sheriff.

TV KID POOL OLYMPICS!

A BIG THANK YOU to Jimmy Bartlet & Jon Smith for orchestrating the hours of FUN & EXCITMENT at the Trout Valley Kid Pool Olympics!! We had over 20 talented TV Athletes who gave it their all!! The level of ENERGY & EXCITEMENT was felt by the spectators poolside & all the way from the gates of Trout Valley to the Harbor at the river! A special thanks for the life guards who coached their teams to victories!!! The belly flop contest is the one that can always be remembered for decades!!! We look forward to next year returning champions as well those kiddos who were on vacation!!!
During the event we had a returning Trout Valley Alumni painting a portrait of the event: Scott Anderson, a world renowned artist. More details on how you can view his work & purchase a copy or original.

Fen News
A large tree came down in the Fen in the past week and blocked the main path and slightly damaged the main bridge railing. A "shout out" to Bob Antrim and Bob McDonough for cutting and removing the branches from the trunk so that the main path is now accessible again. The trunk will be cut up next week.
It is interesting to note how this seemingly healthy tree came down with a clean break mid trunk. If any residents are concerned that this could happen to trees on their property and are interested in having an Arborist inspect trees on their property, the Trout Valley Forest Board would be happy to help them. Welcome a New Resident to Trout Valley!
Please join me in welcoming Barb Schmidt to our community. Barb moved into her new home at 230 Valley Road just a few weeks ago.
Barb grew up in Evanston and Skokie and has also lived in Texas and New Jersey. An educator, she taught first and second grade in Oak Park. For the past sixteen years, she lived on five acres in Barrington Hills.
Barb has a son and daughter living in Chicago and two grandsons, ages five and seven.
Birds of prey are a very important part of her life. Eight years ago, she co-founded the Northern Illinois Raptor Center in Hoffman Estates. Their mission includes education, research and conservation of raptors and to ensure the health and protection of the raptor population in our area.
Her favorite raptor is the barred owl, and she keeps a white cockatiel and a parakeet as pets on her screened in porch. A male cat named Fingers, and females Puffin, Misty and Bacci complete this nature lover's family.
Reading and gardening are some favorite hobbies of Barb, along with anything to do with birds.
She loves the dense woods, ponds, creeks, and Fox River and living with nature all around her in beautiful Trout Valley.

Water Aerobics!
It's a long-standing tradition that we offer exercise classes of Water Aerobics at the Trout Valley Pool. Please join us on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings from
9:00 am until 10:00 am.
The classes are self-taught, unless you would like to offer up a new routine or exercise for our group. We are always open to new ideas and techniques.
These classes are free and open to all paid-in-full, adult Trout Valley Pool members.
If it's cool or raining and lightning and thunder are present, classes are cancelled. Use your best judgement.
There are a limited number of noodles, kickboards and hand weights available for your use.
Classes will begin on Monday, June 6th and end in September when the pool closes for the season.

Packet pickup will be at Galati's Hideaway on August 12th at from 4:00 - 6:00pm. This event is weather permitting. There will be no alternative rain date.
The Glow Run is a fundraiser for the Cary 26 Educational Foundation which benefits teachers and classrooms in the District through grants for school supplies, field trips and educational events like reading and speech competitions. Website for registration and volunteering.

TeamCarone Foundation is a -21- and OVER celebration with proceeds benefiting cancer research, financial gifts of love to those suffering from cancer, along with scholarships at all the local high schools in District 155 for male and female student athletes. Local music artist Althea Grace Band will kick off the day. Dinner entertainment will feature live music from Nashville recording artist; Andy Griggs, a live and silent auction including trips, signed gear and memorabilia from the outdoors, music, and sports worlds, and a helicopter ball drop. Evening entertainment will kick off with Trash Can Symphony followed by Fogline and our headliner who will stop you in your tracks! You won't want to miss this special night! Tickets will be available June 1 !

This upcoming January, I will be traveling to Guatemala with some of my classmates to do a physical therapy service trip with the organization Hearts in Motion. I am hoping to collect as many new shoes, diapers, and school supplies as I can to bring with me! The organization sends down donations they have collected twice a year which are then delivered to the villages we will be serving.

Wood Chipping Guidelines 2016
Aug 8 and 22
Chipping of brush and tree limbs is a service provided by Trout Valley maintenance personnel using Trout Valley provided wood chipping equipment for the convenience of Trout Valley residents. It is NOT for cleanup after professional landscape or tree services. Large wood chipping equipment is used in this process and will not be brought onto the resident's property (liability issues); nor will small, left over debris be raked up. Piles of wood and brush must be left next to the street on the resident's property. Those piles should be stacked with cut ends facing the street - haphazard piles take 3 times as long to chip and may be left behind if they are too tangled
Timing of wood chipping will be posted on signs coming into Trout Valley. Currently those signs are on Stonegate as it intersects Country Commons and on Country Commons at the intersection with Turkey Run. The wood chipping season is largely dependent on Algonquin Township's ability to accept woodchip dumping. The usual season is March through October. Watch the signage for specific dates.
Piles of brush, etc., to be chipped should be no longer than ten (10) feet, nor should any limbs have a maximum diameter greater than six (6) inches. Any logs with diameters in excess of 1" must be at least 2 feet long - otherwise they get caught crosswise in the chipper's throat and cause havoc to the chipping process. No root structures or balls of dirt will be chipped or hauled away - the possibility of included rocks that could damage the chipper or cause safety concerns for our maintenance workers is just too great.

 Moving Trucks We have a local ordinance that prohibits entry of any vehicle greater than 35 feet in overall length. A permit is required, and is available at the maintenance shed. The ordnance was put into effect in 1995 to protect our roads and adjoining landscaping. Unfortunately most truckers pay no attention to the posted signage at the Valley entrances.It is the homeowner's responsibility to ensure that firms they contract with follow these rules. Disregard for these rules can subject the resident to fines. To accommodate a move, we do allow those large trucks to park up near the barn and shuttle the homeowner's goods to the large truck with smaller trucks. Please help save our roads! There is an agreement from the '90s that gives the sheriff the right and obligation to enforce all laws of the road within the Valley. That includes speeding, running stop signs, bringing in overweight trucks, plus other infractions including operating unlicensed vehicles on roadways (i.e.,ATV's, dirtbikes, etc.). Trout Valley Dues
Trout Valley Association by-laws state the $600 semi-annual assessments shall be "payable and due on September 1st and March 1st for the ensuing six months". As the calendar has already turned to May, we have several residents who are delinquent with their payments. Please note that if a resident is past due, they will not be able to join the pool or any clubs (including tennis, boating or riding), attend any Trout Valley functions or be able to rent the lodge or barn for events.
Also, please note the Association may file a lien on any lot that is greater than 90 days past due, and has the "right to initiate proceedings to collect such unpaid dues and any accrued interest, fees and costs". This includes any and all legal fees associated with lien filings and court proceedings. Finally, Section V of the by-laws discusses thePenalty on Delinquent Dues. "A member whose assessments are not paid by the prescribed due date shall, in addition to any other costs or expenses set forth herein, pay to the Association interest on the then unpaid amount of such assessment at the rate of nine percent (9%) per annum, or such other interest rate as may, from time to time, be approved by the Board of Directors and authorized by law, from and including the prescribed due date to and including the date upon which such assessments are paid in full."

Fish News
This is a great time of year to remind all residents of the fishing policy in Trout Valley:
Tom Sawyer pond is the only pond that is not fly fishing only. The TV Association directory has a write up on the fishing policy. Please review if you have any questions.
- Only members and accompanied guests, all wearing fishing badges, may fish in the trout ponds and Tom Sawyer pond.
- All fish caught anywhere in Trout Valley waters must be released.
- In the trout ponds only fly fishing with barb-less hooks is permitted. Other tackle and baits may be used to fish Tom Sawyer pond and deeply hooked fish must be released by cutting the line close to the hook.
- Fishing badges must be worn when fishing. A State License is also required.
- All Trout Valley residents are asked to observe that fishing badges are displayed by people fishing and an official TVA diamond is affixed on parked cars.
Please wear your fishing badges where they can be easily seen by a passerby and have a TV diamond on your parked car.
Please remember: The reason we have good fishing is because the person before you took care to catch and release the fish you caught.

Effective April 1, 2008
PROHIBITED AT ALL TIMES:
Burning of manure, garbage, litter, etc. on any property in McHenry County
Burning of landscape waste within 100' of a habitable structure (i.e. residence, school, etc.)
Burning of landscape waste within 50' of a non-habitable structure (i.e. detached garage, barn, etc.)
RESTRICTIONS WHEN GREATER THAN 100' FROM A HABITABLE STRUCTURE AND 50' FROM A NON-HABITABLE STRUCTURE
Only landscape waste and only on the property where the landscape waste was generated
Only during the months of April, May, October and November (weekends only)
Only between dawn and dusk
Only when the winds are less than 10 mph
Must be supervised by an individual at least 18 years of age
A fire extinguisher, garden hose, or water source must be available by the burning site.
500' EXEMPTIONS
Burning of on-site generated landscape waste 500' or greater from a habitable structure is allowed:
1. During any month of the year
2. On any day of the week
3. At any time of the day
Note: All other prohibitions/restrictions apply.
OTHER EXEMPTIONS
Recreational fires, not larger than 3'x3'x3', and excludes leaves, grass or shrubbery clippings
Ceremonial fires (bonfires) larger than 3'x3'x3', and excludes leaves, grass or shrubbery clippings; permit required from McHenry County Department of Health
Habitat Reclamation or Firefighter
ENFORCEMENT
Any officer of the McHenry County Department of Health, law enforcement agency, fire department or fire protection district is authorized to enforce the provisions of this Ordinance.

The attached column, which was published in the Northwest Herald in February and updated yesterday, is being sent to each school district, municipality and township in the County.

In Need Some Maintenance Work?
Several people have recently asked me about the possibility of hiring our maintenance folk (Bernie and Tony) to do some maintenance work at their private homes. NO PROBLEM! How do you do it? Just contact them directly using Bernie's cell phone (224-401-3128) to set it up.
Here are the rules governing that hire:
1. They are acting as private, independent contractors and will set the price of the project between you and them. It would be best to have the terms in writing so there's no confusion later. You can either pay by the hour or by the project - however you agree to work it out with them. You are to pay them directly.
2. Since they are acting as private independent contractors, they cannot use Trout Valley tools or equipment - they will have to supply their own, or use yours.
3. They will not be working on Trout Valley time so will not be covered by our Workman's comp insurance.

Blast versus Newsletter?
We've recently had questions and requests for sending out email blasts to Trout Valley residents. These have included blasts for charitable donations and open houses. Most community information can be circulated in the weekly newsletter. The blasts are reserved for important and time-sensitive information. We want residents to know that when they receive a blast, they should read it as soon as they can, as it is something of concern for the community.
When we reject a blast request, we are trying to balance the need to communicate effectively and quickly with Trout Valley against the rights of the residents not to be overwhelmed with local messages. If we don't send out a lot of blasts, we hope those we do send get your attention. We appreciate your consideration.
