Luminaries Set Up Service

We are looking for kids who would like to earn some money on Christmas Eve and help out their neighbors at the same time.  Many of our neighbors like or need to have help with their luminaries.  This service includes setting them up, lighting them, and taking them down. Please keep in mind that your child will probably need some parent participation with this project.  The kids would be asked to attend the packing night on Dec 10th and the sale day on Dec 12th.  (Details are below in the Luminaries article.) Payment for the set up service will be collected at the time of the luminaries sale.

If you are interested - contact Jenny Liautaud @ gliautaud@aol.com
for more information.

Please contact Jenny by December 6th, so we know if we can offer this wonderful service this year.

A Trout Valley Holiday Tradition

There is a long standing tradition of lighting luminaries along our streets on the night of December 24th.  We will be continuing this tradition this year and as always, our goal ist to have every street lit.
Luminaries are sold at the barn during and following the annual Holiday Children's Party, Saturday December 12 from 8:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., or during the packing party at the barn on Thursday, December 10 at 7 p.m.
Happening at the Holiday Children's Party:
Luminaries Sale , Bake Sale, Note Cards, Cook Books & the 2016 Trout Valley
Calendar Sale.  This year's calendar is extraordinary, featuring color photos of the valley throughout the year.
Two Times to purchase the luminaries sets, at the barn:
Saturday,  December 12, 2014   8:30 AM - 1 PM
Thursday, December 10, 2014   7 p.m.

Luminaria Packing Party
If you would like to help pack the luminaria for sale, help is needed on December 10th at 7 p.m. at the barn.  This is a fun neighborhood activity and usually takes less than an hour.  Please bring extra plastic or paper grocery bags to be used for packing.  Thank you!

Thank You, Trout Valley!

This last weekend, with the assistance of some fellow Scouts, friends, and neighbors, I was able to complete my Eagle Scout Project for Boy Scouts!  I finished the building of a stone fire pit and the surrounding four log benches that are now at the lakefront behind the Trout Valley Lodge.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Village of Trout Valley and the Trout Valley Association for their generous funding and support of my project.  Mr. Mokry for his donation of the wood and guidance in building the benches.  Bernie, Antonio, and Mr Zimmerman of the Trout Valley Maintenance dept., for their help in transporting & locating my supplies.  Mr. Peterson for his advice & support in building the fire pit. Last but not least, thank you to everyone else that helped in any way with my project!

            (before)                                                                 (after)

Sincerely,
Stephen Gonzalez

Editors Note:  A special thank you to Stephen for choosing to beautify an area in Trout Valley.  It will be enjoyed for years to come! And congratulations on completing your Eagle Scout project.

Welcome New Residents to Trout Valley!

Please warmly welcome the Cummings family to our community.  They recently relocated to 132 Turkey Hill Road from Woodstock.
Jim grew up in the Edison Park neighborhood in Chicago.   After getting a degree in Computer Information Systems, he worked at Illinois Bell and IBM in telecommunications.  For the last eleven years he's worked for Motorola and is currently working as a technical support person for Motorola Solutions in Schaumburg.   In his spare time, he enjoys exercising, hunting, and just recently gave up his longtime sport of boxing.  He watches the Green Bay Packers, Chicago Blackhawks and Cubs baseball.
Eva, his daughter, is currently a freshman at MCC and would like to work as a veterinarian assistant and in childcare.  She's employed at the Riverside Chocolate Factory in McHenry.  Eva enjoys working out, being creative, arts and crafts, taking walks, and is an animal lover. She loves red pandas and pinto horses.
Gordon, his son,  is a technician for computer boards and has been employed by Accelerated Assemblies in Elk Grove Village for the last two years.  He enjoys working on cars, racing motor cycles, hunting and fishing.
Jim also has another son Jim Jr. who lives in Algonquin and another daughter Maureen who lives in Woodstock.
Welcome to Trout Valley and we know you will enjoy living in this wonderful community!

Volunteer to Help the Homeless
Three Cary churches provide food and shelter every week from October through April for our county's homeless population. Cary United Methodist Church opens its doors on Saturdays and SS Peter and Paul Church shares Mondays with Holy Cross Lutheran Church.
The needs of the sites are many, to include readying the sites, preparing and serving food, greeting and signing in guests, manning the sites through the overnight hours, cleaning in the morning hours and doing laundry when convenient for the volunteers.
A desire to help doesn't have to be a weekly commitment. A volunteer can sign up for as few or as many shifts as they'd like. Please consider inviting a friend or neighbor to join you.

For additional information or to sign up to volunteer please find below the contact information:

New Lodge Gate and Marina Locks

The locks at the lodge gate and marina will be replaced mid Oct.  Please contract Brian Stitle 312.953.2262 to make arrangements to either exchange your current key or obtain the new key.  A $35 deposit will be required to obtain a new key if you are not exchanging an old one.  The deposit will be returned when the key is returned.

 Wood Chipping

Chipping dates are finished for the fall.

Chipping of brush and tree limbs is a service provided by Trout Valley maintenance personnel using Trout Valley provided wood chipping equipment for the convenience of Trout Valley residents. It is NOT for cleanup after professional landscape or tree services. Large wood chipping equipment is used in this process and will not be brought onto the resident's property (liability issues); nor will small, left over debris be raked up.

Piles of wood and brush must be left next to the street on the resident's property. Those piles should be stacked with cut ends facing the street - haphazard piles take 3 times as long to chip and may be left behind if they are too tangled.

We cannot accept root balls or any other root structures for fear of embedded rocks that could dangerously harm our personnel or equipment.

Timing of wood chipping will be posted on signs coming into Trout Valley. Currently those signs are on Stonegate as it intersects Country Commons and on Country Commons at the intersection with Turkey Run. The wood chipping season is largely dependent on Algonquin Township's ability to accept wood chip dumping. The usual season is March through October.

Watch the signage near the barn street corners for specific dates each month.

Fish News

This is a great time of year to remind all residents of the fishing policy in Trout Valley:

Tom Sawyer pond is the only pond that is not fly fishing only. The TV Association directory has a write up on the fishing policy.  Please review if you have any questions.

Fishing Rules

  • Only members and accompanied guests, all wearing fishing badges, may fish in the trout ponds and Tom Sawyer pond.
  • All fish caught anywhere in Trout Valley waters must be released.
  • In the trout ponds only fly fishing with barb-less hooks is permitted. Other tackle and baits may be used to fish Tom Sawyer pond and deeply hooked fish must be released by cutting the line close to the hook.
  • Fishing badges must be worn when fishing.  A State License is also required.
  • All Trout Valley residents are asked to observe that fishing badges are displayed by people fishing and an official TVA diamond is affixed on parked cars.
Please wear your fishing badges where they can be easily seen by a passerby and have a TV diamond on your parked car. If residents see people fishing without badges they have every right to inquire and ask for proof of residency.

Finally, new signs specifying the fishing rules are coming soon.

Please remember: The reason we have good fishing is because the person before you took care to catch and release the fish you caught.

In Need Some Maintenance Work?

Several people have recently asked me about the possibility of hiring our maintenance folk (Bernie and Tony) to do some maintenance work at their private homes. NO PROBLEM! How do you do it? Just contact them directly using Bernie's cell phone (224-401-3128) to set it up.

Here are the rules governing that hire:

1. They are acting as private, independent contractors and will set the price of the project between you and them.  It would be best to have the terms in writing so there's no confusion later. You can either pay by the hour or by the project - however you agree to work it out with them. You are to pay them directly.

2. Since they are acting as private independent contractors, they cannot use Trout Valley tools or equipment - they will have to supply their own, or use yours.

3. They will not be working on Trout Valley time so will not be covered by  our Workman's comp insurance.

Call the Sheriff

If you are aware of a problem in the community, it's often best to call the McHenry County Sheriff to ensure they have a record of the problem.  If your home is burglarized, you witness vandalism, you see people loitering down by the river or at other locations within the Valley, please inform the Sheriff.  Maintaining a connection with the Sheriff's office helps to ensure the security of our community.  The Sheriff's non-emergency number is (815) 338-2144.

Send blast submissions
to Bob Baker at
 Blast versus Newsletter?

We've recently had questions and requests for sending out email blasts to Trout Valley residents.  These have included blasts for charitable donations and open houses.  Most community information can be circulated in the weekly newsletter.  The blasts are reserved for important and time-sensitive information.  We want residents to know that when they receive a blast, they should read it as soon as they can, as it is something of concern for the community.

When we reject a blast request, we are trying to balance the need to communicate effectively and quickly with Trout Valley against the rights of the residents not to be overwhelmed with local messages.  If we don't send out a lot of blasts, we hope those we do send get your attention. We appreciate your consideration.

Thanks, Bob Baker
