Happy Halloween!

Trick-or-Treat Hours
The Village's trick-or-treat hours for Halloween on Saturday, October 31st are from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

Farewell to a Friend

One of Trout Valley's homesteaders and long-time residents passed away last Friday, October 23, 2015. James P. Liautaud built his home across from Tom Sawyer pond in 1972. He and his wife Gina raised their 4 kids and were active residents here until they moved to the city in 1991...his son Greg and his wife Jenny took it over and are now raising their 4 kids there. Long-time residents will remember Jim's many performances at the pool parties including Tom Jones "Spinning Wheel," personal champagne deliveries and toasts at holiday time (because Gina wanted him out of the kitchen), the amazing lights in the trees at Christmas that caused a power surge and required a second fuse box, and the helicopter landings in the polo fields. Jim was a man of high energy and passion and could talk to anyone...anyone!  He had an intensity about him that was seen in personal conversations as well as business negotiations. After a full business career where he started numerous companies and acquired over 60 patents, he then went on in his "retirement" to lead a full academic career with the Liautaud Graduate School of Business at UIC, The Leadership Institute, and The Chicago Family Business Council at DePaul University. He did all this while making family a priority and not just his immediate family of 4 kids, 15 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild. He also made it possible for extended family coast to coast to connect on a regular basis. While Jim loved his time in Trout Valley, his favorite place was "Up North" in the Wisconsin woods on Bond Lake. It is here that he spent his final days surrounded by family, embraced in love. He will live on in our hearts as we live and love fully, without boundaries.

"You know what the secret to life is? Something to do, Someone to love, and Something to hope for ...those 3 will take you stratospheric to the top of the moon." - James P. Liautaud (aka Big Jim)

All are welcome to leave messages and memories in the Guest Book at the Caringbridge website.

Life Eternal
After all the deals we've done are history gone,
there is only one that lingers on.
And that is how we lived our life,
with perhaps no better measure,
than keeping score on the lives we touched
and helped along the way.
And taking pause with that reflection,
when I view those few I touched,
it was only them that eventually became
the better part of who I was
and what I would become.
And when my body's life shall end,
'tis I who will be a part of them.
For as they live, so shall I,
and as they pass, should my good deeds linger,
then with each my life resides
and that, my hope, would be forever
- Jim Liautaud, Sr 2004

WE NEED YOUR HELP
Our trout ponds are an extremely valuable asset for Trout Valley.  Their beauty is what
makes Trout Valley so exceptional. In fact, Trout Valley was recently voted the best place to live
In McHenry County & the 2nd best in the whole state.
Protecting our ponds should be a priority for all of us.
Five years ago our community undertook a major pond restoration program.
Storm water rushing through the fen caused tons of silt to be deposited in our ponds annually.  This storm water also caused severe damage to the Fen.
Our community started a "Save our Ponds" fundraiser & raised $168,000.00 to solve this problem.
The solution was to install two cisterns in the fen and attach them to an 800' pipeline which ran under the fen. This pipeline was attached to our storm water system which diverted this water into the Fox River.
This solved our silt problem until the 100 year rain hit a few years ago.  Flood waters from Cary overwhelmed our storm sewer capacity and it buried our ponds insilt.
Each pond has a mechanism to empty the pond which is essential if the pond or dam needs repair. These mechanisms were buried in silt
The cheapest and most ecologically safe method to remove silt is a method developed & patented by Organic Silt Removal, located in Necedah, Wisconsin.  They use divers holding powerful suction tubes to remove silt. This method is efficient precise and does not harm the fish.
The cost is $50,000.00.  The Trout Valley Association has donated $5,000.00 and we have requested a $5,000.00 donation from the Village Board.  Other village residents have already donated $17,500.00.
ON NOVEMBER 9TH at 3PM AT THE BARN RICHARD KOHUTKO OF OSR SYSTEMS WILL DO A POWER POINT DEMONSTRATION ON OUR SILT REMOVAL PROJECT.

PLEASE ATTEND

John Liautaud

Community Day!

elder-man-raking.jpg

Cary Grove High School Student Council is reaching out to elderly
community members who may like some help with outdoor chores, such as leaf raking, trimming, washing windows, etc. for our

Community
Day, Saturday, November 7th, from 9am to noon.

If you know of someone who may appreciate the assistance of our student volunteers, please let us know.

Please Contact Laura Mokry at dlmokry@gmail.com.

Forestry Board

shiny-tree-button.jpg

We are looking for 2 new members for our Forest Board. We meet 3 to 4 times a year. We decide what kind of tree and where to plant that tree for Arbor  Day . We also look at areas that may need a new tree. And when the TV Village has enough in their funds, we winter prune different areas of Trout Valley. If they are interested , please call Kristin Purtill at 847-639-1419.

Stitch & *itch

This is the start of our 9th year!  We have lots of new neighbors in Trout Valley who, according to our Welcome Lady (Terry Parrilli) new neighbor introductions in the newsletter, are interested in handcrafts.

Unfortunately, we've also lost one of our Stitch & *itch regulars, Shirley Beene, who has taken her talents and inexhaustible antique and historical knowledge to Arizona.   We normally meet on the 2nd & 4th Tuesday of each month (Sept. - May) at 9 AM - 10:30 AM at the lodge.  Any carry-along project is fine, whether it's knitting, crocheting, quilting, recipe organizing or scrap booking.

I had shoulder surgery last month and was a bit out of commission, but I'd like to have a meeting on October 27 at the regular time, 9 AM at the lodge, to discuss the future of Stitch & *itch.  Is there a better day, such as Wednesday morning, or would evenings be better for more people?  Would once/month make it more of a social event with better attendance-again, are evenings more desirable?

If you would like to be on our notification email list, let me know (acs181@aol.com) or come to the meeting on Oct. 27 at 9 AM so we can map out the plan that captures the most interested people.

Volunteer to Help the Homeless
Three Cary churches provide food and shelter every week from October through April for our county's homeless population. Cary United Methodist Church opens its doors on Saturdays and SS Peter and Paul Church shares Mondays with Holy Cross Lutheran Church.
The needs of the sites are many, to include readying the sites, preparing and serving food, greeting and signing in guests, manning the sites through the overnight hours, cleaning in the morning hours and doing laundry when convenient for the volunteers.
A desire to help doesn't have to be a weekly commitment. A volunteer can sign up for as few or as many shifts as they'd like. Please consider inviting a friend or neighbor to join you.

For additional information or to sign up to volunteer please find below the contact information:

 Wood Chipping

Chipping dates are finished for the fall.

Chipping of brush and tree limbs is a service provided by Trout Valley maintenance personnel using Trout Valley provided wood chipping equipment for the convenience of Trout Valley residents. It is NOT for cleanup after professional landscape or tree services. Large wood chipping equipment is used in this process and will not be brought onto the resident's property (liability issues); nor will small, left over debris be raked up.

Piles of wood and brush must be left next to the street on the resident's property. Those piles should be stacked with cut ends facing the street - haphazard piles take 3 times as long to chip and may be left behind if they are too tangled.

We cannot accept root balls or any other root structures for fear of embedded rocks that could dangerously harm our personnel or equipment.

Timing of wood chipping will be posted on signs coming into Trout Valley. Currently those signs are on Stonegate as it intersects Country Commons and on Country Commons at the intersection with Turkey Run. The wood chipping season is largely dependent on Algonquin Township's ability to accept wood chip dumping. The usual season is March through October.

Watch the signage near the barn street corners for specific dates each month.

Fish News

This is a great time of year to remind all residents of the fishing policy in Trout Valley:

Tom Sawyer pond is the only pond that is not fly fishing only. The TV Association directory has a write up on the fishing policy.  Please review if you have any questions.

Fishing Rules

  • Only members and accompanied guests, all wearing fishing badges, may fish in the trout ponds and Tom Sawyer pond.
  • All fish caught anywhere in Trout Valley waters must be released.
  • In the trout ponds only fly fishing with barb-less hooks is permitted. Other tackle and baits may be used to fish Tom Sawyer pond and deeply hooked fish must be released by cutting the line close to the hook.
  • Fishing badges must be worn when fishing.  A State License is also required.
  • All Trout Valley residents are asked to observe that fishing badges are displayed by people fishing and an official TVA diamond is affixed on parked cars.
Please wear your fishing badges where they can be easily seen by a passerby and have a TV diamond on your parked car. If residents see people fishing without badges they have every right to inquire and ask for proof of residency.

Finally, new signs specifying the fishing rules are coming soon.

Please remember: The reason we have good fishing is because the person before you took care to catch and release the fish you caught.

In Need Some Maintenance Work?

Several people have recently asked me about the possibility of hiring our maintenance folk (Bernie and Tony) to do some maintenance work at their private homes. NO PROBLEM! How do you do it? Just contact them directly using Bernie's cell phone (224-401-3128) to set it up.

Here are the rules governing that hire:

1. They are acting as private, independent contractors and will set the price of the project between you and them.  It would be best to have the terms in writing so there's no confusion later. You can either pay by the hour or by the project - however you agree to work it out with them. You are to pay them directly.

2. Since they are acting as private independent contractors, they cannot use Trout Valley tools or equipment - they will have to supply their own, or use yours.

3. They will not be working on Trout Valley time so will not be covered by  our Workman's comp insurance.

Call the Sheriff

If you are aware of a problem in the community, it's often best to call the McHenry County Sheriff to ensure they have a record of the problem.  If your home is burglarized, you witness vandalism, you see people loitering down by the river or at other locations within the Valley, please inform the Sheriff.  Maintaining a connection with the Sheriff's office helps to ensure the security of our community.  The Sheriff's non-emergency number is (815) 338-2144.

 Blast versus Newsletter?

We've recently had questions and requests for sending out email blasts to Trout Valley residents.  These have included blasts for charitable donations and open houses.  Most community information can be circulated in the weekly newsletter.  The blasts are reserved for important and time-sensitive information.  We want residents to know that when they receive a blast, they should read it as soon as they can, as it is something of concern for the community.

When we reject a blast request, we are trying to balance the need to communicate effectively and quickly with Trout Valley against the rights of the residents not to be overwhelmed with local messages.  If we don't send out a lot of blasts, we hope those we do send get your attention. We appreciate your consideration.

Thanks, Bob Baker
