Forestry Board
We are looking for 2 new members for our Forest Board. We meet 3 to 4 times a year. We decide what kind of tree and where to plant that tree for Arbor Day . We also look at areas that may need a new tree. And when the TV Village has enough in their funds, we winter prune different areas of Trout Valley. If they are interested , please call Kristin Purtill at 847-639-1419.

Stitch & *itch
This is the start of our 9th year! We have lots of new neighbors in Trout Valley who, according to our Welcome Lady (Terry Parrilli) new neighbor introductions in the newsletter, are interested in handcrafts.
Unfortunately, we've also lost one of our Stitch & *itch regulars, Shirley Beene, who has taken her talents and inexhaustible antique and historical knowledge to Arizona. We normally meet on the 2nd & 4th Tuesday of each month (Sept. - May) at 9 AM - 10:30 AM at the lodge. Any carry-along project is fine, whether it's knitting, crocheting, quilting, recipe organizing or scrap booking.
I had shoulder surgery last month and was a bit out of commission, but I'd like to have a meeting on October 27 at the regular time, 9 AM at the lodge, to discuss the future of Stitch & *itch. Is there a better day, such as Wednesday morning, or would evenings be better for more people? Would once/month make it more of a social event with better attendance-again, are evenings more desirable?
If you would like to be on our notification email list, let me know (acs181@aol.com) or come to the meeting on Oct. 27 at 9 AM so we can map out the plan that captures the most interested people.

Meet at the Lodge at 3:30 for kids games and a costume party. Then, pile on the Trick-or-treat wagon at 4:30. We'll take the family around the neighborhood, so kids can get all sugared up.
Afterwards, come back to the Lodge for warm food by Leyla Wheelhouse. Bring an appetizer to share and beverages for your family.
A $10 donation per family would be appreciated. Please reply if you plan to attend the after party, so we can plan accordingly. Looking forward to seeing you all!

Welcome new residents to Trout Valley!
Please warmly welcome Ben Roy to our Trout Valley community. Ben recently moved from the Wicker Park neighborhood in Chicago into his new home at 90 Briargate Road.
Ben was raised in Conway, Arkansas outside of Little Rock. He attended Central Arkansas (where Scottie Pippen went to college) and earned a degree in Finance. He worked as an Investment Banker for fifteen years. Relocating to Chicago in 2001, he is now a partner in GG Land Group which develops real estate for student housing all over the country.
Ben enjoys playing golf, visiting Lake Geneva in the summer, the Blackhawks, Bears and Bulls. A Cub fan his entire life, he grew up watching games on WGN. Already volunteering with the playground renovation at Briargate School, he also wants to get involved with our community and assist with fundraising and social outings
Maddi, his eight year old daughter, is in second grade at Briargate Elementary. She enjoys the Library at school and loves to read. Her favorite books are the "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" series. Maddi plays soccer, basketball, floor hockey, tennis, baseball, and loves to fish. Purple is her favorite color and a dog would be her favorite pet.
They will be attending the Trout Valley Halloween party at the Lodge next week, so be sure to introduce yourselves and make them feel at home in our amazing and hospitable community. Welcome Ben and Maddi!

"Dancing with OUR Stars"
Fundraiser
The Diaper Bank of Northern Illinois will host "Dancing for Diapers/Dancing with OUR Stars" Saturday, October 24 at the Holiday Inn, 800 S. Rte. 31, Crystal Lake. It starts at 6:30 to 8 p.m. with butlered hors d'oeuvres, appetizer table, sweet table and one drink ticket. Silent Auction and raffles will available throughout the evening.
At 8 p.m. eight couples from McHenry County will participate in a dance competition. Almost all of the couples have never danced before. Instructors Frank and Jackie Penze of Trout Valley have been training each of the couples to perform a different dance. At 9 p.m. there is open dancing and time to vote for your favorite dancers. Tickets are $60 per person in advance, $75 at the door. The Diaper Bank of Northern Illinois distributes free diapers to McHenry County residents in need. Turkey Trot!!
It is our favorite time of the year! Preparations are now under way for our 9th Annual Trout Valley Turkey Trot 5K. Registration is now open at www.troutvalleyturkeytrot.com.
As a past participant of the Trout Valley Turkey Trot you know what a fun event this is. In the spirit of keeping this a family-friendly, community event, the price for registration remains the same as last year at $25 ($15 for the kids race).
The Children's 1 Mile Run (12 and under) will kick off the morning's events at 8:30 am, followed by the 5K at 9:00 am. After you've run the race, plan to stay and enjoy snacks and drinks with your fellow competitors!
Honors will be awarded to:
* Top Finisher M&F
* Top youth finisher M&F
* Top finisher kids race M&F
* Top Finisher over 40 M&F
* Oldest finisher M&F
* Best Costume (Thanksgiving, gangster, and Disney themes)
* And back this year, top Trout Valley finisher
Proceeds from the Trout Valley Turkey Trot 5K promote and benefit the health and wellness of youth runners in our community through the TTCCA. The TTCCA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit association dedicated to promoting youth running as a lifelong activity in our community. Healthy kids become healthy adults and healthy adults are an asset to the community. Proceeds will also benefit the Cary Grove Food Pantry, and we ask each participant to bring a non-perishable food item on race day.

The Fox River Grove Fire Protection District and Flight For Life
- McHenry are seeking blood donors for their Seven Angels Memorial 20th anniversary blood drive.
The blood drive will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Fox River Grove Fire Station No. 1, 411 Algonquin Road, Fox River Grove.
The blood drive, Fox River Grove Fire Chief Jim Kreher said, is intended to honor the seven Cary-Grove students killed Oct. 25, 1995, when a school bus was struck by a Metra train at Route 14 and Algonquin Road.

Applications Being Accepted for Merry Cary Parade
Applications are now being accepted to participate in the Merry Cary Holiday Parade & Festival on Sunday, December 6 in downtown Cary. The event, hosted by the Cary Grove Area Chamber of Commerce and the Village of Cary, features one of McHenry County's largest holiday parades, followed by a number of free downtown activities for local families. Parade application forms are available by clicking here.
Merry Cary Parade participation is free to Cary area community groups and Cary Grove Chamber business members. The fee for non-member Chamber businesses and organizations outside of the community is $75. If you are interested in participating in the Merry Cary parade, click here for an application form or call the Chamber office at (847) 639-2800. Applications can also be picked up from the Chamber offices located at 445 Park Avenue, Cary.
Volunteer to Help the Homeless
Three Cary churches provide food and shelter every week from October through April for our county's homeless population. Cary United Methodist Church opens its doors on Saturdays and SS Peter and Paul Church shares Mondays with Holy Cross Lutheran Church.
The needs of the sites are many, to include readying the sites, preparing and serving food, greeting and signing in guests, manning the sites through the overnight hours, cleaning in the morning hours and doing laundry when convenient for the volunteers.
A desire to help doesn't have to be a weekly commitment. A volunteer can sign up for as few or as many shifts as they'd like. Please consider inviting a friend or neighbor to join you.

Cary Park District Senior Center Glee Club Seeks New Members
The Cary Park District Senior Center Glee Club is interested in additional members. This casual social club meets on Tuesday mornings from 10:00 - 11:00 am at the August Kraus Senior Center located at 441 W. Main Street.
In addition to meeting weekly, the Glee Club performs once a month at nursing home and retirement centers in the area and at Senior Center parties and events throughout the year. Experience is not necessary as the Glee Club is open to those who enjoy singing and would like to socialize and have fun.

Wood Chipping
Final dates for this year:
October 26
Chipping of brush and tree limbs is a service provided by Trout Valley maintenance personnel using Trout Valley provided wood chipping equipment for the convenience of Trout Valley residents. It is NOT for cleanup after professional landscape or tree services. Large wood chipping equipment is used in this process and will not be brought onto the resident's property (liability issues); nor will small, left over debris be raked up.
Piles of wood and brush must be left next to the street on the resident's property. Those piles should be stacked with cut ends facing the street - haphazard piles take 3 times as long to chip and may be left behind if they are too tangled.
We cannot accept root balls or any other root structures for fear of embedded rocks that could dangerously harm our personnel or equipment.
Timing of wood chipping will be posted on signs coming into Trout Valley. Currently those signs are on Stonegate as it intersects Country Commons and on Country Commons at the intersection with Turkey Run. The wood chipping season is largely dependent on Algonquin Township's ability to accept wood chip dumping. The usual season is March through October.
Watch the signage near the barn street corners for specific dates each month.

Summary of Open Burning of Landscape Waste Regulations
McHenry County Public Health Ordinance
Article III - Section 1.29
Effective April 1, 2008
PROHIBITED AT ALL TIMES:
Burning of manure, garbage, litter, etc. on any property in McHenry County
Burning of landscape waste within 100' of a habitable structure (i.e. residence, school, etc.)
Burning of landscape waste within 50' of a non-habitable structure (i.e. detached garage, barn, etc.)
RESTRICTIONS WHEN GREATER THAN 100' FROM A HABITABLE STRUCTURE AND 50' FROM A NON-HABITABLE STRUCTURE
Only landscape waste and only on the property where the landscape waste was generated
Only during the months of April, May, October and November (weekends only)
Only between dawn and dusk
Only when the winds are less than 10 mph
Must be supervised by an individual at least 18 years of age
A fire extinguisher, garden hose, or water source must be available by the burning site.
500' EXEMPTIONS
Burning of on-site generated landscape waste 500' or greater from a habitable structure is allowed:
1. During any month of the year
2. On any day of the week
3. At any time of the day
Note: All other prohibitions/restrictions apply.
OTHER EXEMPTIONS
Recreational fires, not larger than 3'x3'x3', and excludes leaves, grass or shrubbery clippings
Ceremonial fires (bonfires) larger than 3'x3'x3', and excludes leaves, grass or shrubbery clippings; permit required from McHenry County Department of Health
Habitat Reclamation or Firefighter
ENFORCEMENT
Any officer of the McHenry County Department of Health, law enforcement agency, fire department or fire protection district is authorized to enforce the provisions of this Ordinance.

Fish News
This is a great time of year to remind all residents of the fishing policy in Trout Valley:
Tom Sawyer pond is the only pond that is not fly fishing only. The TV Association directory has a write up on the fishing policy. Please review if you have any questions.
Fishing Rules
- Only members and accompanied guests, all wearing fishing badges, may fish in the trout ponds and Tom Sawyer pond.
- All fish caught anywhere in Trout Valley waters must be released.
- In the trout ponds only fly fishing with barb-less hooks is permitted. Other tackle and baits may be used to fish Tom Sawyer pond and deeply hooked fish must be released by cutting the line close to the hook.
- Fishing badges must be worn when fishing. A State License is also required.
- All Trout Valley residents are asked to observe that fishing badges are displayed by people fishing and an official TVA diamond is affixed on parked cars.
Please wear your fishing badges where they can be easily seen by a passerby and have a TV diamond on your parked car. If residents see people fishing without badges they have every right to inquire and ask for proof of residency.
Finally, new signs specifying the fishing rules are coming soon.
Please remember: The reason we have good fishing is because the person before you took care to catch and release the fish you caught.

In Need Some Maintenance Work?
Several people have recently asked me about the possibility of hiring our maintenance folk (Bernie and Tony) to do some maintenance work at their private homes. NO PROBLEM! How do you do it? Just contact them directly using Bernie's cell phone (224-401-3128) to set it up.
Here are the rules governing that hire:
1. They are acting as private, independent contractors and will set the price of the project between you and them. It would be best to have the terms in writing so there's no confusion later. You can either pay by the hour or by the project - however you agree to work it out with them. You are to pay them directly.
2. Since they are acting as private independent contractors, they cannot use Trout Valley tools or equipment - they will have to supply their own, or use yours.
3. They will not be working on Trout Valley time so will not be covered by our Workman's comp insurance.

Call the Sheriff
If you are aware of a problem in the community, it's often best to call the McHenry County Sheriff to ensure they have a record of the problem. If your home is burglarized, you witness vandalism, you see people loitering down by the river or at other locations within the Valley, please inform the Sheriff. Maintaining a connection with the Sheriff's office helps to ensure the security of our community. The Sheriff's non-emergency number is (815) 338-2144.

Welcome Lady!
There's a new Welcome Lady in town!! Terry Parrilli has graciously offered to bring back our old tradition of visiting the homes of new neighbors to bring them neighborhood greetings and information. She will be able to answer your questions about our village and association, the many wonderful amenities, and the clubs and activities that are available, etc.

Blast versus Newsletter?
We've recently had questions and requests for sending out email blasts to Trout Valley residents. These have included blasts for charitable donations and open houses. Most community information can be circulated in the weekly newsletter. The blasts are reserved for important and time-sensitive information. We want residents to know that when they receive a blast, they should read it as soon as they can, as it is something of concern for the community.
When we reject a blast request, we are trying to balance the need to communicate effectively and quickly with Trout Valley against the rights of the residents not to be overwhelmed with local messages. If we don't send out a lot of blasts, we hope those we do send get your attention. We appreciate your consideration.
