Trout Valley Association Board Meeting

June 15, 2015  7 p.m. at the lodge

TRUCKS ENTERING TROUT VALLEY

Because of our narrow and winding roads, Trout Valley has some very specific rules about size and weight restrictions on trucks entering Trout Valley. Permits are required for any truck longer than 35 feet or heavier than 6 tons per axle. Signs are posted outside the Valley, but have been ignored in the past, so we need to ask all residents to make sure that trucks exceeding those dimensions do not come in to service your property. The phone number listed on that warning sign to obtain permits is now going to Bernie Vara - and that needs to be amended or changed. We had a recent incident that had us call the Sheriff about a 54' moving truck - he recommended we edit the signs and inform all residents via this newsletter.

  A Heartfelt Thank YOU!

If you have noticed the pots around the Trout Valley pool filled with beautiful flowers, we now know the remarkable neighbors that are responsible for this colorful garden.
The Trout Valley Riding Club, the Krueger family, and financial donations from Sandy Bury and Jenny Liautaud made this all happen.  This was the Riding Club's way of thanking our community for supporting their Annual Spring Plant Sale at the barn.
Residents continue to improve our community with their spirit, generosity, time, and hard work.
The Pool Members thank ALL of you!

Water Aerobics

The Trout Valley pool has a long tradition of offering water aerobics classes at our beautiful, historic pool.  These classes offer a low-impact workout that's easy for anyone to do, and they are also a lot of fun!
Please join us at the pool on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings from 9:00 am - 10:00 am
Use your best judgment regarding weather.  If it's very cool, raining, or lightning is present, we don't have classes.
These classes are offered to adults only and are self-taught.
Classes are free for all Pool Members and their guests only.

Noodles, kick boards, and a limited supply of weights are available for these classes.
When you enter the gate, pick up your props by the pump room door, and kindly return them after class.

Thank you and see you at the pool!
Contact me with any questions or concerns.

Welcome new Trout Valley Residents!

Please give a warm, Trout Valley "welcome" to our new residents, Cortland and Gloria Lowe. Cortland and Gloria purchased their new home at 1 Big Oaks Road.

Cortland was born in Jacksonville, Florida and moved to Sylvania, Georgia as a young boy.  He lived near Statesboro, Georgia most of his life.  He attended Georgia Tech in Atlanta and received a degree in Industrial Management.  After 32 years, he retired as an Industrial Engineer in a carpet yarn manufacturing plant.  He has three adult children and two grandchildren:  Cortland, in Austin, Texas; Jonathan, on St. Simons Island, Georgia; and daughter "Cotton" in Augusta, Georgia.  Cortland is a fan of English football, Blackhawks hockey, the Atlanta Braves and the Chicago Cubs.  He misses those famous "boiled peanuts" from Georgia.  Sadly, those are not sold on street corners in Illinois.  He enjoys golf, hunting, Xbox video games, and has found yard work to be a pleasant pastime!

Gloria grew up in Missouri and has lived close to Ft. Worth, Texas and O'Hare Airport in her adult life.  She began her career with American Airlines working in reservations.  For the past seventeen years, she has been an O'Hare based flight attendant.  Gloria has three adult children and three grandchildren. Her son Steve is currently living with them.  Son Luke and his wife Keisha reside in Hurst, Texas; and daughter Kate and her husband Boone live in Abilene, Texas. Gloria loves to cook and especially loves to bake during the holidays.  When we met, she was thinking about making a Gumbo.  Her passion for cooking came from her grandmother.  She is a Dallas Stars hockey fan and trying to become a Chicago Blackhawks fan.  (That shouldn't be too difficult. Let's Go Hawks!).

The Lowe family is complete with Bailey, their seven year old female Yorkie poo.

Gloria found their new home while searching on the website Zillow.  When she saw online photos of the Trout Valley sign, the horses at the barn, and the historic Stonegate entrance, it was love at first sight.  They love the peace and quiet, watching the wildlife, and enjoying their beautiful yard.

Welcome, Gloria, Cortland, Steve and Bailey.  We are happy that you chose Trout Valley to be your "forever home!"

Terry Parrilli

Entrance / Exit Exploratory Committee Being Formed

The Trout Valley Association has initiated a committee to explore ways to improve traffic control, protect our roads and common properties, and cut down on nuisance vandalism and loitering, particularly during the late night hours. One of the options being considered will be to install vehicle gates at strategic locations, operating during the evening hours only or possibly full-time. Residents, emergency and service vehicles will have complete and easy access at all times. Walk-in and bicycle traffic will not be affected. In addition, a community-wide survey will be sent out shortly to thoroughly take all opinions into consideration. If you are interested in joining this committee, please contact Carrie Krueger (kruegers9@comcast.net) or Tom Lentz (tlentz1@att.net).

Thank you!

Fish News

This is a great time of year to remind all residents of the fishing policy in Trout Valley:

Tom Sawyer pond is the only pond that is not fly fishing only. The TV Association directory has a write up on the fishing policy.  Please review if you have any questions.

Fishing Rules

  • Only members and accompanied guests, all wearing fishing badges, may fish in the trout ponds and Tom Sawyer pond.
  • All fish caught anywhere in Trout Valley waters must be released.
  • In the trout ponds only fly fishing with barb-less hooks is permitted. Other tackle and baits may be used to fish Tom Sawyer pond and deeply hooked fish must be released by cutting the line close to the hook.
  • Fishing badges must be worn when fishing.  A State License is also required.
  • All Trout Valley residents are asked to observe that fishing badges are displayed by people fishing and an official TVA diamond is affixed on parked cars.
Please wear your fishing badges where they can be easily seen by a passerby and have a TV diamond on your parked car. If residents see people fishing without badges they have every right to inquire and ask for proof of residency.

Finally, new signs specifying the fishing rules are coming soon.

Please remember: The reason we have good fishing is because the person before you took care to catch and release the fish you caught.

Wood Chipping

June 22

Chipping of brush and tree limbs is a service provided by Trout Valley maintenance personnel using Trout Valley provided wood chipping equipment for the convenience of Trout Valley residents. It is NOT for cleanup after professional landscape or tree services. Large wood chipping equipment is used in this process and will not be brought onto the resident's property (liability issues); nor will small, left over debris be raked up. Piles of wood and brush must be left next to the street on the resident's property. Those piles should be stacked with cut ends facing the street - haphazard piles take 3 times as long to chip and may be left behind if they are too tangled

Timing of wood chipping will be posted on signs coming into Trout Valley. Currently those signs are on Stonegate as it intersects Country Commons and on Country Commons at the intersection with Turkey Run. The wood chipping season is largely dependent on Algonquin Township's ability to accept wood chip dumping. The usual season is March through October.

Watch the signage near the barn street corners for specific dates each month.

Send blast submissions
to Bob Baker at
 Blast versus Newsletter?

We've recently had questions and requests for sending out email blasts to Trout Valley residents.  These have included blasts for charitable donations and open houses.  Most community information can be circulated in the weekly newsletter.  The blasts are reserved for important and time-sensitive information.  We want residents to know that when they receive a blast, they should read it as soon as they can, as it is something of concern for the community.

When we reject a blast request, we are trying to balance the need to communicate effectively and quickly with Trout Valley against the rights of the residents not to be overwhelmed with local messages.  If we don't send out a lot of blasts, we hope those we do send get your attention. We appreciate your consideration.

Thanks, Bob Baker
