Entrance / Exit Exploratory Committee Being Formed
The Trout Valley Association has initiated a committee to explore ways to improve traffic control, protect our roads and common properties, and cut down on nuisance vandalism and loitering, particularly during the late night hours. One of the options being considered will be to install vehicle gates at strategic locations, operating during the evening hours only or possibly full-time. Residents, emergency and service vehicles will have complete and easy access at all times. Walk-in and bicycle traffic will not be affected. In addition, a community-wide survey will be sent out shortly to thoroughly take all opinions into consideration. These classes offer a low-impact workout that's easy for anyone to do, and they are also a lot of fun! Please join us at the pool on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings from 9:00 am - 10:00 am. Use your best judgment regarding weather. If it's very cool, raining, or lightning is present, we don't have classes. These classes are offered to adults only and are self-taught. Classes are free for all Pool Members and their guests only. Noodles, kick boards, and a limited supply of weights are available for these classes. Conserve @ Home
The first Trout Valley home has recently received recognition from the Land Conservancy of McHenry County for the home's environmentally-friendly landscape. Hopefully, this will be the first of many Trout Valley properties that will qualify as eco-friendly landscapes. Steps taken by homeowners to obtain this certification will alleviate some of the fertilizer and herbicide residues from draining into the Trout Valley ponds and will perpetuate the natural beauty of the Village.

Straight from the Horse's Mouth
This weekend starts the unofficial start to summer! Along with BBQs, sports, and outdoor fun with friends and family, you may start seeing TVRC horses in the lower pasture by the river. The horses love this time of year as they are able to stay outside longer hours and eat the delicious and nutritious grass.
As a reminder, please do not feed the horses (unless you have reached out to a club member) and do not enter the pasture. Please let your kids know this as well!

Trout Valley Tennis lessons
(Open to all residents)
It's time to start registering for summer tennis lessons, taught by a pro, on our beautifully resurfaced courts in Trout Valley. Lessons are open to everyone in the Valley, regardless if you are a member of the Tennis Club. They are on Mondays and Wednesdays only this summer.
There will be two sessions: S1: 6/15-6/24 -Mon./Wed.
S2: 7/13-7/29-Mon./Wed.

Pool Membership is required for the use of the pool and its amenities. Membership is ONLY available for TV Residents in GOOD STANDING (Association Dues must be up to date). TV resident non-pool members CANNOT use the pool (and its amenities) as guests of a pool member. Pool members must accompany their guest. We are looking to fill lifeguard positions and encourage anyone who knows of a responsible person 15 years or older who would like to earn some money this summer please let us know. There is a Lifeguard Certification class at the YMCA on May 22nd that still has space.

Scholarship Winner...Ms. Gretchen Price!
Gretchen is currently a senior at Cary-Grove H.S . In the fall, she plans to attend St. Norbert College, in De Pere, Wisconsin, where she will major in Elementary Education. At Cary-Grove H.S., she is President of Interact (campus service organization), Team Captain of the Women's Track and Field team, member of the Senior Superfan Committee, and has been part of the Cary-Grove Chorus. She also served as a Lifeguard at the Trout Valley pool for many summers. In addition, she has worked as a counselor at YMCA Camp Edwards and enjoys working with kids and volunteering. Her future plans include teaching and serving in the Peace Corps or other service organizations. Congratulations Gretchen! The Village had four outstanding applicants this year...congratulations to all of them!

Storm Water
Did you know that 11 states do not allow unfiltered storm water to be discharged into their waterways, because of the toxins in storm water? Toxic substances from shingles, roads, fertilizer, salt and other sources all get mixed into storm water. Illinois still allows the discharge of these unfiltered chemicals into our waterways. Trout Valley contributes to this problem by allowing the storm water from the flood plain in Cary to be discharged through our system and into the Fox River, and even our ponds. If you are interested in joining an effort to require storm water to be filtered before it enters our waterways, and what can be done to keep these toxins out of our Trout Ponds, please call:

Storm Water Reminder
You are the solution to storm water pollution. The storm water basins and sewers in our community channel rainwater to local area ponds, creeks and rivers. Much of that water also enters the ground water aquifer that we rely on for our Village's water supply.
It is the responsibility of each of us to help protect that water supply. There are a number of ways that we can all do our part.
A. Report Illegal Dumping: Never allow chemicals such as paint, motor oils, or household cleaners to enter the drainage system. Contact Public Works to report dumping (847) 639-0003.
B. Discourage Littering - If you see someone littering, remind them that the litter is carried by wind and rain down the drain where it can enter area ponds. Litter should be disposed of in a trash container.
C. Follow Car Wash Tips - Washing your car at home allows pollutants such as grease, dirt, oil, metals, and chemicals from soap and cleansers to flow directly into the storm drain and possibly the Village water supply. Instead, take your car to a car wash where the water is discharged to the sanitary sewer system where it is treated. Other options include washing the car on a permeable surface such as dirt, landscaping, or gravel, or washing the car away from the gutter so the water does not enter.
D. Implement Responsible Gardening Practices - Maintaining a nice garden is important but by implementing responsible gardening practices, residents can significantly help prevent storm water pollution. Here are some tips:
Minimize the Use of Chemicals by only using pesticides only when non-chemical methods are ineffective. Choose the least toxic material and do not apply chemicals to your garden or lawn in excess, especially before irrigation or an anticipated rain event.
Use Fertilizer Sparingly and do not apply before irrigation or an anticipated rain event. If you must use fertilizer, give preference to slow-release and organic fertilizers. Fertilizers contain large amounts of nitrogen, which can leach into waterways when applied in excess and cause harm to the environment.
Do Not Over-Water since it can lead to increased runoff, carrying chemical pollutants to stormdrains into our waterways. Installing a drip irrigation or micro-spray system helps conserve water and decrease runoff.
Garden with Native Plants because they are adapted to the local climate and habitat, native plants require less water and are more disease-resistant.
Contain Yard Waste by sweeping excess lawn clippings, leaves and other yard wastes and compost them in a contained space in your yard or dispose of them in the green waste cart. Excess soil should be swept off the pavement and not washed into storm drains.
Store Chemicals in a covered area during a rain event.

Sheriff's Office Open House
The McHenry County Sheriff's Office would like to personally invite you and your constituents to attend our upcoming Open House on Saturday May 30, 2015 from 10:00am until 2:00pm at our offices in Woodstock (2200 N. Seminary Avenue, Woodstock). During the event, the Sheriff's Office will open their doors to the community to learn about services provided to the residents of the county. Our open house will feature the following: · Displays of vehicles and equipment in the east parking lot · Department tours · Electronic fingerprinting for children · A Canine Unit demonstration at 12:30pm · The ability to meet the men and women of the Sheriff's Office and ask questions regarding the office's operations. Fish News
This is a great time of year to remind all residents of the fishing policy in Trout Valley:
Tom Sawyer pond is the only pond that is not fly fishing only. The TV Association directory has a write up on the fishing policy. Please review if you have any questions.
Fishing Rules
- Only members and accompanied guests, all wearing fishing badges, may fish in the trout ponds and Tom Sawyer pond.
- All fish caught anywhere in Trout Valley waters must be released.
- In the trout ponds only fly fishing with barb-less hooks is permitted. Other tackle and baits may be used to fish Tom Sawyer pond and deeply hooked fish must be released by cutting the line close to the hook.
- Fishing badges must be worn when fishing. A State License is also required.
- All Trout Valley residents are asked to observe that fishing badges are displayed by people fishing and an official TVA diamond is affixed on parked cars.
Please wear your fishing badges where they can be easily seen by a passerby and have a TV diamond on your parked car. If residents see people fishing without badges they have every right to inquire and ask for proof of residency.
Finally, new signs specifying the fishing rules are coming soon.
Please remember: The reason we have good fishing is because the person before you took care to catch and release the fish you caught.

There is a pile of logs opposite 172 Stonegate that came from a tree we had to remove. They are all cut to fireplace lengths. First come first served.
Wood Chipping
Tuesday, May 26 (as Monday is a holiday)
Chipping of brush and tree limbs is a service provided by Trout Valley maintenance personnel using Trout Valley provided wood chipping equipment for the convenience of Trout Valley residents. It is NOT for cleanup after professional landscape or tree services. Large wood chipping equipment is used in this process and will not be brought onto the resident's property (liability issues); nor will small, left over debris be raked up. Piles of wood and brush must be left next to the street on the resident's property. Those piles should be stacked with cut ends facing the street - haphazard piles take 3 times as long to chip and may be left behind if they are too tangled
Timing of wood chipping will be posted on signs coming into Trout Valley. Currently those signs are on Stonegate as it intersects Country Commons and on Country Commons at the intersection with Turkey Run. The wood chipping season is largely dependent on Algonquin Township's ability to accept wood chip dumping. The usual season is March through October.
Watch the signage near the barn street corners for specific dates each month.

McHenry County Public Health Ordinance
Article III - Section 1.29
Effective April 1, 2008
PROHIBITED AT ALL TIMES:
Burning of manure, garbage, litter, etc. on any property in McHenry County
Burning of landscape waste within 100' of a habitable structure (i.e. residence, school, etc.)
Burning of landscape waste within 50' of a non-habitable structure (i.e. detached garage, barn, etc.)
RESTRICTIONS WHEN GREATER THAN 100' FROM A HABITABLE STRUCTURE AND 50' FROM A NON-HABITABLE STRUCTURE
Only landscape waste and only on the property where the landscape waste was generated
Only during the months of April, May, October and November (weekends only)
Only between dawn and dusk
Only when the winds are less than 10 mph
Must be supervised by an individual at least 18 years of age
A fire extinguisher, garden hose, or water source must be available by the burning site.
500' EXEMPTIONS
Burning of on-site generated landscape waste 500' or greater from a habitable structure is allowed:
1. During any month of the year
2. On any day of the week
3. At any time of the day
Note: All other prohibitions/restrictions apply.
OTHER EXEMPTIONS
Recreational fires, not larger than 3'x3'x3', and excludes leaves, grass or shrubbery clippings
Ceremonial fires (bonfires) larger than 3'x3'x3', and excludes leaves, grass or shrubbery clippings; permit required from McHenry County Department of Health
Habitat Reclamation or Firefighter
ENFORCEMENT
Any officer of the McHenry County Department of Health, law enforcement agency, fire department or fire protection district is authorized to enforce the provisions of this Ordinance.

If you are aware of a problem in the community, it's often best to call the McHenry County Sheriff to ensure they have a record of the problem. If your home is burglarized, you witness vandalism, you see people loitering down by the river or at other locations within the Valley, please inform the Sheriff. Maintaining a connection with the Sheriff's office helps to ensure the security of our community. The Sheriff's non-emergency number is (815) 338-2144.

Welcome Lady!

Blast versus Newsletter?
We've recently had questions and requests for sending out email blasts to Trout Valley residents. These have included blasts for charitable donations and open houses. Most community information can be circulated in the weekly newsletter. The blasts are reserved for important and time-sensitive information. We want residents to know that when they receive a blast, they should read it as soon as they can, as it is something of concern for the community.
When we reject a blast request, we are trying to balance the need to communicate effectively and quickly with Trout Valley against the rights of the residents not to be overwhelmed with local messages. If we don't send out a lot of blasts, we hope those we do send get your attention. We appreciate your consideration.
