Congratulations to our new and re-elected Village of Trout Valley Board Members:
President (4 Year Term): Robert Baker Trustees (4 Year Term): Kristin Purtill, Todd Somers, and Michael Murphy Trustee (2 Year Term): David Ippolito
A special "thank you" to all Trout Valley residents who voted and supported all of our candidates in this election. A total of 178 residents cast just over 700 total votes. Great turnout!

Kiss Me Kate ... Goodbye
After 12 years of service to the Village of Trout Valley, Kate Barrett has finished her term in office. This ends a streak of having a Barrett on the Board every year since the Village was incorporated in 1996. Her husband, Steve Barrett, was the first Village President from 1996-2003. "Kate was a colorful personality on the Board," said Village President Bob Baker. "She has a unique blend of sarcasm and humor that is refreshing. Kate was always in the know about events in the community and she was very pragmatic, so she was good at pointing out when the Board was being unrealistic. We will miss that voice." Thank you Kate for your dedication and commitment to Trout Valley!

2015 Riding Club/Barn Flower Sale
It's time for the annual flower sale to benefit the Riding Club and the barn.
Orders are due by Sunday, April 26th.
Pick up day is Saturday, May 9th from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the barn (just in time for Mother's Day).
Additional plants will be for sale that day, as well.

Arbor Day Celebration 2015
Arbor Day is Friday, April 24th. The Trout Valley Tree Board will be honoring the day by planting a River Birch down at the River by the Tennis courts at 4 P.M. Friday April, 24th. Please join us for this memorable occasion.
The first Arbor Day was celebrated in 1872 in Nebraska. J. Sterling Morton convinced the Board of Agriculture to set aside a day for the planting of trees. Mr. Morton stated "other holidays" reflect on the past. Arbor Day proposes a look to the future. We will have more interesting facts and information for you at the ceremony. Please join us.

Spring Safety Reminder
A neighbor mentioned that she has seen large birds of prey circling our neighborhood skies and that two years ago her 12 pound dog was picked up by a bird of prey. The dog was dropped by the bird and recovered from some serious talon wounds.

Dear Neighbors,
Please consider another form of yard waste removal to burning. My family has three Asthma sufferers. When we have a nice day, we like to open our doors and windows. Unfortunately we cannot due to smoke that literally brings on Asthma attacks and must be dealt with using inhalers. The problem is the smoke also penetrates into our home even if our doors and windows are closed.
We love spring and fall but also dread it!

Wood Chipping
April 27
Chipping of brush and tree limbs is a service provided by Trout Valley maintenance personnel using Trout Valley provided wood chipping equipment for the convenience of Trout Valley residents. It is NOT for cleanup after professional landscape or tree services. Large wood chipping equipment is used in this process and will not be brought onto the resident's property (liability issues); nor will small, left over debris be raked up. Piles of wood and brush must be left next to the street on the resident's property. Those piles should be stacked with cut ends facing the street - haphazard piles take 3 times as long to chip and may be left behind if they are too tangled
Timing of wood chipping will be posted on signs coming into Trout Valley. Currently those signs are on Stonegate as it intersects Country Commons and on Country Commons at the intersection with Turkey Run. The wood chipping season is largely dependent on Algonquin Township's ability to accept woodchip dumping. The usual season is March through October.
Watch the signage near the barn street corners for specific dates each month.

Summary of Open Burning of Landscape Waste Regulations
McHenry County Public Health Ordinance
Article III - Section 1.29
Effective April 1, 2008
PROHIBITED AT ALL TIMES:
Burning of manure, garbage, litter, etc. on any property in McHenry County
Burning of landscape waste within 100' of a habitable structure (i.e. residence, school, etc.)
Burning of landscape waste within 50' of a non-habitable structure (i.e. detached garage, barn, etc.)
RESTRICTIONS WHEN GREATER THAN 100' FROM A HABITABLE STRUCTURE AND 50' FROM A NON-HABITABLE STRUCTURE
Only landscape waste and only on the property where the landscape waste was generated
Only during the months of April, May, October and November (weekends only)
Only between dawn and dusk
Only when the winds are less than 10 mph
Must be supervised by an individual at least 18 years of age
A fire extinguisher, garden hose, or water source must be available by the burning site.
500' EXEMPTIONS
Burning of on-site generated landscape waste 500' or greater from a habitable structure is allowed:
1. During any month of the year
2. On any day of the week
3. At any time of the day
Note: All other prohibitions/restrictions apply.
OTHER EXEMPTIONS
Recreational fires, not larger than 3'x3'x3', and excludes leaves, grass or shrubbery clippings
Ceremonial fires (bonfires) larger than 3'x3'x3', and excludes leaves, grass or shrubbery clippings; permit required from McHenry County Department of Health
Habitat Reclamation or Firefighter
ENFORCEMENT
Any officer of the McHenry County Department of Health, law enforcement agency, fire department or fire protection district is authorized to enforce the provisions of this Ordinance.

2015 Village of Trout Valley Scholarship Award Deadline Approaching!
The Village of Trout Valley is pleased to offer one college scholarship in the amount of $750 for an eligible Trout Valley resident or Trout Valley Association member. Graduating high school seniors are encouraged to apply. Full details can be found on the scholarship application, which is on the Trout Valley website page and a link to the application is also attached to this newsletter. The cost of tickets are $35.00, 2 tickets for $60.00 or reserve a table of 8 for $210.00 and includes a all you can eat Italian buffet, dessert and soft drinks. The Friends of the Cary Area Library (FOCAL) Used Book Sale - invite you to their special Preview Night ($5 admission for Adults) on Friday, April 17. Get first pick of the thousands of used books, DVDs, CDs that will be on hand. One entire room is dedicated to childrens' materials! (Teachers with ID get half off book prices all weekend.) Saturday and Sunday will be "regular" book sale days (no admission): Saturday hours are 9 am to 5 pm; Sunday hours 1 pm to 5 pm.
Annual Fashion Show April 24 Looking for spring? You can find it at the Kraus Senior Center Annual Fashion Show. The Fashion Show will be held on Friday, April 24th from 11am to 1:30pm at the Cary Park District Community Center, 255 Briargate Road. Cost is $10 Resident / $11 Non-Resident. Enjoy this perfect feel-good spring event featuring Senior Center models wearing spring and summer fashions from the Dress Barn in Crystal Lake. The Cary Police Department will once again sponsor this event with Officer Kathleen Eiring assisting as the MC and other officers assisting the models. Three Oaks Assisted Living is also co-sponsoring this event. Lunch will feature breast of chicken Florentine, parsley baby red potatoes, vegetable, tossed salad and dessert. Register early as space is limited. The registration deadline is April 17th (or until filled) and refunds will not be provided after the deadline.Interested in being a model? Run With the Law Fundraiser

Run WITH the Law is a part of the Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) for Special Olympics Illinois. The LETR is the single largest year-round fundraising vehicle benefiting Special Olympics Illinois. The annual intrastate relay and its various fundraising projects have two goals: to raise money and to gain awareness for the athletes who participate in Special Olympics Illinois. The LETR has raised more than $35 million over 29 years while increasing awareness of Special Olympics athletes and their accomplishments.

Cary Area Library Used Book Sale

The Friends of the Cary Area Library are having a Used Book Sale at the Library's Meeting Room, 1606 Three Oaks Road. There will be a preview sale on Friday, April 17, from 6-8pm ($5 admission for adults). The sale continues on Saturday, April 18, from 9am-5pm; and Sunday, April 19, from 1-5pm. Teachers with ID will receive 1/2 off.
Residential electronics & recycling event, May 2
Here's a spring cleaning event you won't want to miss! McHenry County Department of Health (MCDH) encourages residents to bring their old electronics, paint, batteries and documents for shredding to the annual Residential Electronics and Recycling event scheduled from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 2 at the McHenry County Administration Building, 667 Ware Road, Woodstock.
No commercial or business waste will be accepted. Recycling fees apply to fluorescent lamps, CFLs and latex paint. A limit of ten electronic devices per participant. See the flyer at www.mcdh.info for a full list of acceptable items. For more information, call MCDH at 815-334-4585.
Grounds To Grow On Program - K-Cup recycling
With the popularity of K-Cups on the rise, disposal of the non-recyclable single serving containers has become a growing issue. In 2014 alone, Keurig Green Mountain produced 9.8 billion K-Cups, enough to circle the Earth 12 times. In total, there have been 60 billion K-Cups that have gone into landfills during Keurig's rise. In an effort to address this problem, Keurig started a program that takes back your spent K-Cups. They then turn the grounds into compost and take the non-recyclable containers and send them to a Waste to Energy facility which incinerates them and captures the electricity to be used in the grid.

Concerts are held weekly beginning at 7:30 p.m., Thursday nights at Riverfront Park. We will be having a different food truck every week that will serve up great food to go with great music. Call the Sheriff
If you are aware of a problem in the community, it's often best to call the McHenry County Sheriff to ensure they have a record of the problem. If your home is burglarized, you witness vandalism, you see people loitering down by the river or at other locations within the Valley, please inform the Sheriff. Maintaining a connection with the Sheriff's office helps to ensure the security of our community. The Sheriff's non-emergency number is (815) 338-2144.

Welcome Lady!
There's a new Welcome Lady in town!! Terry Parrilli has graciously offered to bring back our old tradition of visiting the homes of new neighbors to bring them neighborhood greetings and information. She will be able to answer your questions about our village and association, the many wonderful amenities, and the clubs and activities that are available, etc.

Blast versus Newsletter?
We've recently had questions and requests for sending out email blasts to Trout Valley residents. These have included blasts for charitable donations and open houses. Most community information can be circulated in the weekly newsletter. The blasts are reserved for important and time-sensitive information. We want residents to know that when they receive a blast, they should read it as soon as they can, as it is something of concern for the community.
When we reject a blast request, we are trying to balance the need to communicate effectively and quickly with Trout Valley against the rights of the residents not to be overwhelmed with local messages. If we don't send out a lot of blasts, we hope those we do send get your attention. We appreciate your consideration.
