Consolidated Elections
(information about polling places and TV candidates are in an article below)

                                       Don Pelletier

It is with much sadness that I write about the death of a great friend who passed away Wednesday morning after a valiant effort battling lung cancer. It all went too fast - we were golfing last Fall as the diagnosis came in, and now on the virtual eve of his birthday, he has been taken. Such is life...

Don grew up in Michigan and was that most wanted commodity as a young man, a caddie who would always find your ball, and a baseball catcher who could hit. Doing well in academics as well, he won a place at West Point, got a degree in engineering and caught for them as well. After graduation he was married to the love of his life, another Army brat, Suzan, and luckily was shipped off to Germany where he was promoted to Captain. He was then shipped off to Viet Nam. When he returned to the US he and Suzan ventured to the wilds of Indiana where he worked for 4 years at Western Electric supervising the manufacturing processes for making telephones out of plastic. He left them to work for Glastic Corporation, selling plastics - then on to Dynacon and then became VP of sales at Rogan in Northbrook, this time selling plastic knobs. From there, he started selling plastic injection molding equipment and conveyers for plastic parts, and to this day was his own boss at NAB sales, thereby completing the cycle of working for one of the world's largest corporations to the smallest.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, Suzan was dealing with Nicole and Aimee, his loving daughters - and finally Beau who garnered much of his attention. They moved from Margaret Terrace in Cary to Trout Valley in the early 80's, did all the fun stuff they could with the kids - swimming and tennis at the Trails as well as at the Valley. Don was not only an avid golfer and tennis player, he was good at both sports. As far as intellectual pursuits were concerned, Don was also an avid reader - especially of historical novels about the Civil War, and an excellent bridge player (although we all knew it was Suzan who held that bridge team together). He gave a lot to his family and to his beloved Trout Valley community. He volunteered for many Valley activities, including serving on the Board of Directors (Treasurer), cleaning out the fen, and was the organizational whiz who made the Silent Auction for the Fen a great success.

To Don, the most important part of his life was FAMILY. Nicole had moved up into northern Michigan where she ran an antiques shop until the economy went bust, then enrolled in nursing school. The skills she learned there have helped Don in these latter days. Aimee is the financial genius of the family. She married Brian Williams (of American Airlines, not NBC News) and now lives in northern Michigan as well with Grandkids Jack and Summer. Beau finally found love and married Sissy (Thereza), moved to Prague, Czechoslovakia and presented Don and Sue with 3 more Grandkids, Josie, Stella and Collette. All will be here in mid-April to celebrate Don's birthday on the 16th. Don had also been a big help to my family as we went through my many heart issues. We will all miss him much more than we realize.

Pick up day is Saturday, May 9th from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the barn (just in time for Mother's Day).

Additional plants will be for sale that day, as well.

Thank you for supporting the Riding Club and the
Barn!

Wood Chipping

Chipping of brush and tree limbs is a service provided by Trout Valley maintenance personnel using Trout Valley provided wood chipping equipment for the convenience of Trout Valley residents. It is NOT for cleanup after professional landscape or tree services. Large wood chipping equipment is used in this process and will not be brought onto the resident's property (liability issues); nor will small, left over debris be raked up. Piles of wood and brush must be left next to the street on the resident's property. Those piles should be stacked with cut ends facing the street - haphazard piles take 3 times as long to chip and may be left behind if they are too tangled

Timing of wood chipping will be posted on signs coming into Trout Valley. Currently those signs are on Stonegate as it intersects Country Commons and on Country Commons at the intersection with Turkey Run. The wood chipping season is largely dependent on Algonquin Township's ability to accept woodchip dumping. The usual season is March through October.

Watch the signage near the barn street corners for specific dates.

Welcome a new resident to Trout Valley!

Please give a warm Trout Valley "welcome" to our new resident, Michael Hall.
Michael has settled into his new home at 77 Bluff Road.  While he continues to live in the city of Chicago, this is his second home and where he plans to eventually retire.
Michael has lived in the Midwest for most of his life.  He grew up in Michigan and has a Master's Degree in Spanish Literature from the University of Michigan.  He was planning to get his PhD but decided he didn't want to be a professor after all.
At the advice of his grandfather, who worked in commercial real estate, he became a residential real estate agent twenty-one years ago, and hasn't looked back.

For the past thirteen years, he has worked as an agent and broker on the north side of Chicago, currently working for Baird and Warner.
What attracted Michael to Trout Valley was the ability to board a horse right in the historic, neighborhood barn.  Once he saw the Valley, and all of the beauty and amenities, he was sold.  He enjoys getting away from the hustle and bustle of the city out here in the "country."
Michael loves horses and riding.  He also is an avid tennis player and plays the piano.  He enjoys walking his four dogs, Izzy, Gracie, Otto and Bailey while exploring his new neighborhood.
Welcome Michael.  We are happy you found a quiet and peaceful place to unwind and relax after a busy workweek!

Terry Parrilli

A once-in-a-lifetime auction is bringing the most extraordinary private collection of Grateful Dead memorabilia to the Chicago area. Amid the high energy generated by the band's forthcoming "Fare Thee Well" shows this summer at Soldier Field, former employees and friends of the Dead are presenting The Grateful Dead Family Jubilee Auction on April 11-12, 2015.

Hosted 50 miles northwest of Chicago at Donley Auction Services in Union, Ill., the auction features artifacts and artwork spanning the entire career of the legendary American band, representing an unstoppable cultural revolution that they boldly unleashed on the world. Grounds To Grow On Program - K-Cup recycling

With the popularity of K-Cups on the rise, disposal of the non-recyclable single serving containers has become a growing issue. In 2014 alone, Keurig Green Mountain produced 9.8 billion K-Cups, enough to circle the Earth 12 times. In total, there have been 60 billion K-Cups that have gone into landfills during Keurig's rise. In an effort to address this problem, Keurig started a program that takes back your spent K-Cups. They then turn the grounds into compost and take the non-recyclable containers and send them to a Waste to Energy facility which incinerates them and captures the electricity to be used in the grid.

If you are interested in more information please visit the Grounds to Grow On program website by clicking here.

Call the Sheriff

If you are aware of a problem in the community, it's often best to call the McHenry County Sheriff to ensure they have a record of the problem.  If your home is burglarized, you witness vandalism, you see people loitering down by the river or at other locations within the Valley, please inform the Sheriff.  Maintaining a connection with the Sheriff's office helps to ensure the security of our community.  The Sheriff's non-emergency number is (815) 338-2144.

Send blast submissions
to Bob Baker at
 Blast versus Newsletter?

We've recently had questions and requests for sending out email blasts to Trout Valley residents.  These have included blasts for charitable donations and open houses.  Most community information can be circulated in the weekly newsletter.  The blasts are reserved for important and time-sensitive information.  We want residents to know that when they receive a blast, they should read it as soon as they can, as it is something of concern for the community.

When we reject a blast request, we are trying to balance the need to communicate effectively and quickly with Trout Valley against the rights of the residents not to be overwhelmed with local messages.  If we don't send out a lot of blasts, we hope those we do send get your attention. We appreciate your consideration.

Thanks, Bob Baker
