Stitching Club

Welcome to Stitch & B*tch

The Trout Valley Stitch & B*tch group is starting our 8th year and all Trout Valley residents and "alums" are welcome.  We meet on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month during the school year, at 9 AM till 10:30-ish, at the riverfront lodge.  This month, however, our next meeting is Sept. 30th.  In October, it will be the 14th and 28th.

You can bring any carry-along project, whether it's knitting, crocheting, quilting, any other needlework, recipe organization, photo album, or just come to socialize. We're always ready to help out if you have questions, or to share ideas. Bring a cup of coffee or bottle of water if you want.

If you want to be on the email list for reminders, or you have any questions, please contact Ann Somers at acs181@aol.com or call at 847-639-1278.

Welcome New Residents!

Please give a warm Trout Valley "welcome" to the Kuhner family, who recently moved into their new home at 233 Valley Road from Seattle, Washington.  Ed, Jennifer, and their children Anna 10, Henry 8, and Sam 5, are no strangers to Trout Valley.  Jennifer is the daughter of Barb and Dan Palenske, longtime residents on River Drive.  Jennifer grew up in Trout Valley from the age of twelve, and she and Ed were married at her lovely childhood home on the Fox River.  They continue the tradition of multiple generations of Trout Valley families making their home here.
Ed works for HTC, a phone company in Seattle.  Jennifer has a Master's Degree in Social Work, but is now a stay at home mom.  Ed and Jennifer met on Halloween while in school, in New Orleans, and they love celebrating that holiday. Ed likes to build things, is very talented with any kind of technology, enjoys remote control cars and helicopters and any technology toy.  Jennifer loves horses and riding and is thinking about getting a horse in the spring.  She loves animals, the outdoors, walking, reading, and visiting Chicago.  She would love to volunteer for any social events in the Valley for our children.
Anna loves softball, basketball, playing the piano, and reading.  Henry is involved with Cub Scouts, playing the drums, chess, and recently flew in an airplane at Lake in the Hills Airport.  He aspires to become an airline pilot. Sam is the family comedian who is unforgettable, very active, and enjoys all sports, especially soccer.
The Kuhner family loves the sense of community in Trout Valley, and the freedom that allows their children to meet friends, roam, and play outdoors.  Trout Valley reminds them of Seattle and they are very happy to be back near family.
We are delighted you chose to return to Illinois and make Trout Valley your new home!

Terry Parrilli

Reminder About Golf Cart Drivers

There are a lot of golf carts being driven by kids on the roads in the Valley. The Golf-cart guidelines clearly state that all drivers MUST have a drivers' license.

Section from our guidelines:

State law permits local governing bodies to allow golf carts on local streets under certain
circumstances. They may operate only on streets with a posted speed limit of 35 mph or less, the drivers  must have valid Illinois drivers' licenses, and the vehicles must have brakes, steering, a rear-view mirror, headlights, taillights, brake lights, turn signals, reflectors on the front and back, and "slow-moving vehicle" signs in the rear. Although Trout Valley's streets are private and not subject to these rules, for the protection and safety of the community, the State's requirements are being enforced.

Thank you,

Wally Zimmerman

Send blast submissions
to Bob Baker at
 Blast versus Newsletter?

We've recently had questions and requests for sending out email blasts to Trout Valley residents.  These have included blasts for charitable donations and open houses.  Most community information can be circulated in the weekly newsletter.  The blasts are reserved for important and time-sensitive information.  We want residents to know that when they receive a blast, they should read it as soon as they can, as it is something of concern for the community.

When we reject a blast request, we are trying to balance the need to communicate effectively and quickly with Trout Valley against the rights of the residents not to be overwhelmed with local messages.  If we don't send out a lot of blasts, we hope those we do send get your attention. We appreciate your consideration.

Thanks, Bob Baker
