From the Building Committee

As spring arrives, many residents are considering home improvement projects. Please remember that approval from the Building Committee is required for, but not limited to, house or roof color changes, additions, patios, decks, pools, driveways and major landscaping changes.  If you are simply repairing or replacing something with the exact material, then approval is not required; however, depending on the project, you may still require a McHenry County Building Permit.

All of the information you need is available through the Trout Valley website or in the right hand sidebar "quick link" in this newsletter.   Contact Steve Kidder or Ann Somers for questions.

Advertising Your Business

We have recently had requests to put advertisements in the Trout Valley News for residents who own businesses. Although it is our policy not to use the newsletter in this way, we do have an alternative.  If you live in the valley and own a business you would like to promote, please send me the name of the company, what you do, and contact information (phone number, email, and website if you have one.

We have a section of the TV website called Professional Services, where we can add your company.  Send your information to troutvalleynews@gmail.com.  There is also a link to this site under Quick Links in the right column of this newsletter, titled Professional Services - TV Resident Owned Businesses.

Thank you

COM-ED TREE TRIMMING Update

Com Ed has marked all the trees that need to be trimmed (green ribbons) or removed (pink ribbons) near their power lines. That will probably take place in June and will be done with big orange Asplundh trucks. Trees will be cut into fireplace sized logs and left where they came down. Help yourself. You are welcomed.

Pond Silt

In case you're wondering, we will be moving the pond silt that is in the ditch at the back of the pasture soon. Some has been moved already and dumped around the baseball backstop anticipating some plantings, some in the flower gardens, and the rest will go to cover that bare mound where that pile of wood used to be near the tennis courts. That will be seeded so Bernie can have more grass to cut.

Chipping Season is Back

Motion on Chipping
Best Practices

Chipping of brush and tree limbs is a service provided by Trout Valley maintenance
personnel using Trout Valley provided wood chipping equipment for the convenience of Trout Valley residents. It is NOT for cleanup after professional landscape or tree services.

Large wood chipping equipment is used in this process and will not be brought onto the resident's property (liability issues); nor will small, left over debris be raked up. Piles of wood and brush must be left next to the street on the resident's property.

Timing of wood chipping will be posted on signs coming into Trout Valley. Currently those signs are on Stonegate as it intersects Country Commons and on Country Commons at the intersection with Turkey Run. The wood chipping season is largely dependent on Algonquin Township's ability to accept wood chip dumping.  The usual season is March through October. Watch the signage for specific dates.

Piles of brush, etc., to be chipped should be no longer than ten (10) feet, nor should any limbs have a maximum diameter greater than eight (8) inches. No root structures or balls of dirt will be chipped or hauled away - the possibility of included rocks that could damage the chipper or cause safety concerns for our maintenance workers is just too great.

Thanks for your cooperation!

Need Mulch? (plus update)

As many of you know, the Trout Valley  Maintenance crew creates wood chips that could be used as mulch. We normally have so much that we have to dump them at the Algonquin Highway locale, or at the Cary maintenance area.

Here's the deal - we can dump it on your property so you can mulch those plants you're buying at the Riding Club sale! Only a couple limitations - we will get you a load when we have it, a load consists of one full truckload (not a half), it will be dumped on your property where our truck can reach the spot (usually a driveway), and if it's first ordered, it's first delivered. I will maintain the list for Bernie. So if you need Mulch, call me at 847-682-8500. Let me know where you want it dumped, and we will try to accommodate you.

Several of you had requested that we drop off wood chips for your yards, but haven't seen them yet. You are still on the list!  We decided not to drop off our last loads as they consisted mainly of pine, with many pine needles and lots of tree sap. We will get to at least some of you soon - as we do intend to chip again as soon as we see the piles start growing again. Need some dry warm weekends to get y'all working in your yards!

 Blast versus Newsletter?

We've recently had questions and requests for sending out email blasts to Trout Valley residents.  These have included blasts for charitable donations and open houses.  Most community information can be circulated in the weekly newsletter.  The blasts are reserved for important and time-sensitive information.  We want residents to know that when they receive a blast, they should read it as soon as they can, as it is something of concern for the community.

When we reject a blast request, we are trying to balance the need to communicate effectively and quickly with Trout Valley against the rights of the residents not to be overwhelmed with local messages.  If we don't send out a lot of blasts, we hope those we do send get your attention. We appreciate your consideration.

Thanks, Bob Baker
