Crash! Boom! Bang!
Do you remember this from the old Batman TV show? This is what can happen when someone goes the wrong way on our one-way streets. In fact, a resident was involved in an accident this week while turning into the Stonegate entrance. Luckily, only the cars were damaged - the adults and children are okay. The resident was making a proper turn into the entrance, but had to stop unexpectedly and was rear ended because a car was coming out the wrong way through the gate. A car coming up the hill on Cary-Algonquin Road narrowly avoided the accident by quickly maneuvering around the damaged cars in the road. This car could have hit both vehicles head on, resulting in serious injury.
It is very dangerous to go the wrong way on our narrow streets. We know it takes a few extra minutes to go around, but the streets are one-way for a reason. We have seen an increase lately in the number of cars taking this dangerous shortcut. We are going to ask the Sheriff for additional patrols and to be sure to ticket drivers going the wrong way on any of our streets.
The car that caused the accident is described as dark blue and "boxy", possibly a Jeep. The accident occurred around 4:45 PM on Tuesday, October 8. A reward is being offered for any information regarding the identity of the driver. Should you have any details, please forward them to troutvalleyblasts@gmail.com .

Apache Tribe of Trout Valley Ushers in Season of Fun Pow-wows!
The Apache tribe of Sage YMCA's Adventure Princesses is planning another fun year of daddy-daughter activities. The tribe's membership, made up of fathers and daughters in the K-6 age group, has been based in the Trout Valley area for over a decade.
The Y's Adventure Princesses program (formerly Indian Princesses) is an affordable way to help dads build healthy and long-lasting relationships with their daughters. Older girls have opportunities to mentor younger ones, and everyone gets to have fun. In a typical year, a tribe meets monthly and learns a craft or participates in a social service or learning field trip. Groups of tribes, called alliances, do larger activities together. Sage's Four Feathers Federation of alliances sponsors a cardboard regatta and seasonal camp outs. Attention dads: a favorite Federation activity is the pinewood derby -- building and racing a pinewood car with your daughter.

 Fall
The falling leaves will soon drift by your windows and land on lawns, roads and culverts. Your happy maintenance staff will be out there trying to keep the roads and culverts clear for both safety and aesthetics, and to keep rain water running where we want it. So please do not blow leaves back on the roads or try to use the roadways as fire pits. It makes a mess and speeds the roads' deterioration. Many thanks.

Park District Construction
I have been in contact with Park District representatives for an update on the parking lot constriction. This is the current status:
1) With the construction, things have been changing almost daily. Various community staff (Park District personnel, the Briargate Principal, Police Officers) have been on site as needed to help direct the Trout Valley kids who use this location as a means to get to school or to the bus stop;
2) The current situation is about the worst the project is going to get. After next week, things will continue to improve as the parking lot is put back together;
3) As for any changes concerning the junior high bus stop, the Briargate Principal is acting as a point person for District 26. Trout Valley residents can contact him or the Junior High principal regarding the bus pick up; and,
4) The Park District anticipates the project to be completed by the end of October or the beginning of November, weather permitting. If you have any specific questions regarding this project, please forward them to my attention and I will get an answer as quickly as possible.

The Trail of History is a living history interpretive event. Interpreters from across the country portray and demonstrate life as it was from 1670-1850 in the former Northwest Territory which encompasses present day Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and portions of eastern Minnesota. The event's focus is to show the interrelationship between nature, man and cultural development.
The first event occurred in 1989 and was named the Kames Rendezvous. In 1990, the event was renamed Trail of History to reflect the increased focus toward living history interpretation. Today there are over 150 encampments. The Trail of History encampment is nestled at the foot of the glacial kames in the rolling terrain of Glacial Park. It occurs annually the third weekend in October just as the prairie grasses and trees display their vibrant colors.
The McHenry County Conservation District presents the Trail of History with the assistance of numerous volunteers and other areas and re-enactors from across the country

Blast versus Newsletter?
We've recently had questions and requests for sending out email blasts to Trout Valley residents. These have included blasts for charitable donations and open houses. Most community information can be circulated in the weekly newsletter. The blasts are reserved for important and time-sensitive information. We want residents to know that when they receive a blast, they should read it as soon as they can, as it is something of concern for the community.
When we reject a blast request, we are trying to balance the need to communicate effectively and quickly with Trout Valley against the rights of the residents not to be overwhelmed with local messages. If we don't send out a lot of blasts, we hope those we do send get your attention. We appreciate your consideration.
