A SPECIAL VISITOR TO FLORIDA HOUSE!
COMMISSIONER CAROLYN J. MASON CHECKS IN WITH OUR PROGRESS
Last Friday, Florida House had the pleasure of updating Sarasota County Commissioner Carolyn J. Mason as to our progress and development. Executive Director, John Lambie, welcomed Carolyn by way of a tour and visit.
Of course, these two have been acquainted through their good works in the community for many years, so the question is: "Did Commissioner Mason come as Commissioner or friend?" About the visit, John Lambie remarked, "Carolyn came as a Commissioner but stayed as a friend."
Thank you for stopping in, Carolyn!

Apollo Sunguard Donates Shaded Electric Car-charging Station to Florida House.
SARASOTA, FL.- Apollo Sunguard of Sarasota has donated and opened a ChargePoint electric car-charging station for two electric vehicles under a 20-foot by 20-foot cantilever shade structure at the Florida House Institute. The station, on the campus of the Florida House at 4454 Beneva Road, Sarasota, is the first station of its kind for Apollo, combining one of Apollo's signature UVA sun shade structures and an electric car-charging station made by ChargePoint, one of the largest EV charging station networks in the world.
"We know that autos heat up to 200 degrees Fahrenheit on a sunny day in Florida and that batteries and charging equipment don't like heat," says Kevin Connelly, President of Apollo Sunguard. "We believe electric cars are the future, and our shade structures make it possible to charge a car more quickly, with less power and also reduce the urban heat island effect that occurs as unshaded areas such as parking lots heat up."
 |
ChargePoint stations allow electric vehicles to sit and charge in the shade while the driver goes to work or play.
|
Earlier this year, Apollo Sunguard won a federal contract to install 168 ChargePoint electric car-charging stations at military bases and other federal buildings across the country. Apollo, which is a manufacturer of innovative sun shade awnings and outdoor canopies for parking lots and outdoor recreational facilities, is a distributor of ChargePoint stations. Apollo is also a longtime corporate supporter of the Florida House.
"We are so grateful that Apollo, a strong community partner, has donated this station to Florida House," says John Lambie, Executive Director of the Florida House. "This donation has made it possible for the Florida House to be part of the network of EV stations across the country, and we're particularly proud that the station is completely powered by solar panels donated by Region Solar and Brilliant Harvest, both of Sarasota, which means no fossil fuels are used in charging electric vehicles at this station."
EV owners, who are part of the ChargePoint network, are welcome to stop by and charge up for free for the first two months at the Florida House. A full charge takes about five hours.
"Apollo and the Florida House are a good match," says Connelly." Apollo is an innovative company that has long supported environmental protection, and Florida House is leading the way in showing us the innovative, sustainable ways we can live in our homes and communities. I can't think of a better place to locate our first shaded charging station than right here."
