On Friday, February 7, 2014, Florida House Institute and Collaborative Labs at St. Petersburg College facilitated a strategic planning workshop called, "Home On Earth."  The goals of the Workshop were to:
  1. Develop a plan for the future interpretive exhibits of the Florida House and Yard;
  2. Develop a plan for a third-grade level STEM education program congruent with the Florida House exhibits; and
  3. Explore opportunities for a Learning Network of affiliated partners.
Stay tuned for more on this and feel free to check out the Content Overview that framed the event HERE.

FLORIDA HOUSE INSTITUTE HOSTED
OFF-SITE WORKSHOP FOR
CONFERENCE ON POSITIVE AGING

Florida House Institute had the pleasure of hosting one of the off-site workshops for the Seventh Annual International Conference on Positive Aging brought to us by the the Institute for the Ages.  The title of the Workshop was, "Longevity: Changing Job for the House--What the House is Hired to Do."  The workshop was led by
Louis Tennenbaum, Founder of The Aging in Place Institute and Tracy
Lux, President of Trace Consulting Group.

The Workshop on Universal Design and Community presented discussion in three areas:

1.   Meeting the needs of a shifting demographic and the changing population;

2.   Universal Design definitions and examples that meet changing needs as one ages;

3.   Alternate living arrangements that can potentially satisfy changing needs for an aging        population.

The goal of the workshop was to identify testable program ideas and get participants thinking about their own communities as well as how to motivate people to become advocates for Universal Design and spread the word about its benefits.

SMART ENERGY KITCHEN ON THE WAY!

Speaking of Universal Design, Aging in Place and being ADA Compliant, Florida House tore out its old kitchen and is making way for one with all these features!  Thanks to Rande Robbins and his workers at Used Stuff Inc., the way has been cleared to begin the installation of our new Smart Energy Kitchen!
