Tis' the Season of Giving
Thank you to everyone who has renewed their Friends of the Eldredge Public Library membership and/or sent in their contribution to the Trustees Annual Fund Drive. If you haven't already, it is not too late to make your end of the year tax deductible donations!
The Library Trustees and the Friends have a similar mission, to help make the Eldredge Public Library the best it can be. However, they are two separate non-profit organizations, with different governing boards and their own financial responsibilities.
The Trustees are responsible for raising and managing the funds needed for operating the Library. These funds come from the Town (60%), from our endowment income, and from grants and donations to the Annual Fund drive. The operating budget pays for basic daily operations and library essentials, such as staff salaries, utilities and materials (books, DVDs, databases, etc). Your Friends membership helps provide for items beyond the operating budget, such as additional computers, special programs for Youth Services, museum passes, and more.
Please consider becoming both a Friends member AND contributing to the Trustees Annual Fund drive. The Eldredge Public Library staff, Trustees and Friends strive to meet the needs of our youngest visitors to our senior residents. We hope you will continue to support your community library.
Your support of the Eldredge Public Library is very much appreciated!

Meeting Room Upgrade Complete
by Beth Holden, FEPL President
The Friends are pleased to announce the completion of the new audio-visual system in the Forgeron Meeting Room. With the new system, we are able to improve both audio and video performance and access, and enhance the sound for audience members who are hearing impaired.
Some of the improvements include a new mixer amplifier, a remote volume panel and upgraded HDMI audio component. We purchased a new ceiling projector that offers higher definition pictures and a brighter image.
We have also installed a Hearing Loop system. A hearing loop is a wire that circles a room and is connected to a sound system. The loop transmits electromagnetic signals that are then picked up by the telecoil (T-coil) in a hearing aid or cochlear implant, enabling the hearing instrument to become an in-the-ear speaker that broadcasts sound appropriate to each user's needs.
Funding for the system was made possible in part by memorial donations for Jeanette and Franklin Pease, long-time supporters of the Friends. Additional money came from reserve funding from the Friends' membership drive, special event fundraising and other sources. Thank you to the many donors who made this purchase possible, as well as special thanks to Amy Andreasson, Assistant Director, who was the technical advisor behind it all.

Library Benefits from Local Grants by Irene Gillies, Library Director
This year the Library received several generous grants from local granting agencies. We would like to thank those organizations and recognize their support of the Eldredge Public Library and their commitment to the Chatham community.
The Women's Club of Chatham gave us the opportunity to purchase a wireless printer which has received heavy use by grateful patrons and visitors alike.
With a grant from The Chatham Fund of the Cape Cod Foundation we were able to purchase a new laptop to be used by speakers, teachers and presenters in our meeting room. We recently were awarded another grant from The Chatham Fund of the Cape Cod Foundation to replace the copy machine in our Genealogy Department. The new copier will have the added functionality to scan documents so researchers can save files in a digital format on a flash drive.
As we strive to meet the needs of our community, we could not do so without the assistance of these local supporters. THANK YOU!

Learning Series Update by Kerry Brown, Friends' Learning Series Co-Chair
| Professor Frank Smith as Ovid |
This fall's Learning Series program has been an exciting one, to say the least. As of early November such new classes as Birding Cape Cod, Presidential Elections, Why Not Wine?, The Natural World of Cape Cod, A World Undone - World War I, Modern Mysticism, and The Roaring Twenties have been exceptionally well received, and we are happy to say that the teachers of these courses are looking forward to returning in the future. In addition, proven favorites like Frank Smith's Immortal Gods, Peter Saunders's Prose or Poetry, and Mindfulness Meditation have maintained their devoted followings and considerable popularity.

Many thanks to our wonderful group of "Pumpkin Ladies" who once again created a fabulous display to represent the Library for "Pumpkins in the Park," part of Chatham's Oktoberfest.

Staff Profile: Lorna Dzialo by Beth Holden
Lorna Dzialo has been working at EPL for the last four years. In addition to her day-to-day general library responsibilities, her specific tasks include mediating interlibrary loan requests that are filled via the Commonwealth Catalog, as well as libraries around the country. She is also responsible for selecting large print and non-fiction titles in our adult collection. She says working at the library is her dream job.
In another life Lorna was a major in the U.S. Marine Corps. After nine years and three little boys she resigned from the Corps to go back to school and pursue more family-friendly employment. She looks forward to another milestone when she becomes a grandmother in February.
Thank you Lorna for your service in the military, and your commitment to the library.

The Commonwealth Catalog broadens your search beyond the CLAMS resources. In one easy step you can search through millions of items at participating Massachusetts libraries. Make a request and it will be delivered right to your local library for pick up!
