CMS Re-opens Submission Period: Hardship Exception Applications Due Nov. 30 to Avoid Medicare Payment Adjustment

CMS has announced its intent to reopen the submission period for hardship exception applications for eligible professionals and eligible hospitals to avoid the 2015 Medicare payment adjustments for not demonstrating meaningful use of Certified Electronic Health Record Technology (CEHRT). The new deadline is Nov. 30, 2014. Previously, the hardship exception application deadline was April 1, 2014 for eligible hospitals and July 1, 2014 for eligible professionals. Read more

Important Points Regarding 2014 Final Proposed Rule from CMS

As most are aware by now, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) published the CMS Final Proposed Rule Friday, Aug. 29, 2014. It takes effect Oct. 1, 2014.The rule allows health care providers more flexibility in how they use Certified Electronic Health Record Technology (CEHRT) to meet the Meaningful Use Incentive Program for 2014.
The final rule was published in the Federal Register Sept. 4. It provides flexibility in 2014 to eligible providers (EP), eligible hospitals (EH) and eligible critical access hospitals (CAH) to use 2011 editions of CEHRT or 2011 and 2014 editions of CEHRT or 2014 editions of certified CEHRT to participate and receive Meaningful Use Incentive Payment or avoid payment penalties in 2015. RECs reach new milestone

IL-HITREC is pleased to be among the nation's 62 Regional Extension Centers (RECs) that have reached a new milestone - RECs across the nation have assisted more than 100,000 Priority Primary Care Providers in achieving Meaningful Use of Electronic Health Records. RECs have assisted over 105,000 total providers in achieving Meaningful Use (MU). The achievement was announced Sept. 30, by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC). Read more
